Local network speed testing

I currently have a simple network - 1 router and 1 extender. I know that no one likes extenders! I will be upgrading things. Ethernet connections are out of the question, so I intend to use powerline adapters. Devices will be a MBP (as a Plex server), 3 Samsung TVs (as Plex clients) and various iOS devices.

What I'd really like is a bit of software that can test the speed between the MBP and the TVs. The speed between the MBP and the router it connects to can be tested, and there are iOS apps that test the same, but nothing that I have found that can test the speed right through the network.

Any ideas? I don't mind paying for software.

If you can mount a usb drive on the router just use blackmagic to measure the throuput from the MBP from each of the points.

You say it like it's obvious! This? And will it show the quality of a connection, or just the toos and fros?

It will show you the throughput in MBPs, (130MBps being the max for 1Gbe) but you should also run it first from a device directly connected to the router itself so you can see what the max transfer rate is locally.

You can get the program (black magic speed test) from the mac app store.
Select the mount point on the router and then run the speed test. I get a good constant 110MBps over ethernet (dont try and measure over WiFi).. If you cant mount a USB drive to the router use a computer with a shared folder thats directly connected by ethernet to the router.

If you have windows you could use lanspeedtest too.

That's pretty clever... I've used a commandline utility in the past (iptraf) but this seems much easier.
