Today I received my copy of Office 2004 (German language version) which I ordered through the step up program. I've realised that MS forgot to add the Swiss German dictionary. Although you can chose Swiss German in the language settings, the spell checker doesn't mark misspelt words and in the Compatibility Report I get an error message: Swiss German dictionary not installed (although I did a full install). So I copied the German dictionary files from my Office X CD into the Office 2004 directory and guess what the Swiss German dictionary works! I only hope MS fixes this rather embarrassing flaw. BTW the official release date for the German version of Office 2004 is June 17. So it seems they seem to serve step up customers before the retail market

There is one important difference in spelling: all the words that are spelt with a "ß" (prnounced "szett" in German and Austrian German are spelt "ss" in Swiss German. E.g. It's "Straße" in Germany and Austria but "Strasse" in Switzerland (Strasse meaning street). It's very inconvenient if you live in Switzerland and can't use a spell checker that can distinguish between German/Austrian spelling and Swiss spelling because there are lot of words that are spelt with a "ß".
