Dear all,

Apologies if this is a known issue that has been discussed elsewhere - I've searched around quite a bit and haven't found anything on the subject.

I recently updated my MacPro 2,1 (2 x 3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 16GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB, OS X 10.9.1 on an OWC 6G Pro SSD) to run OS X Mavericks. I used the Sixty Four on Thirty Two script which uses Tiamo's modified boot efi etc. and everything has worked like a charm - the machine boots quickly and the OS is perfectly stable.

My only issue is that I'm unable to find my current location in the Maps app, or on google maps. My Mac Pro has a WIFI card (the stock WIFI card offered for the 2006 MacPros - its a AirPort Extreme [0x14E4, 0x87], firmware version is Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 [5.10.131.36.16]) and that's what I'm using to connect to the internet (via a time capsule). I've allowed location services in the security & privacy settings settings.

Is anyone else experiencing problems with locational services in Mavericks on a 2006 MacPro? I installed Mavericks onto a clean SSD (wanting to keep my old HD intact in case of issues with the install) and no recovery partition was created: It's not clear to me whether a recovery partition is required for location services to work properly.

Any help or advice gratefully received.

All the best
Luke

Thanks Robert,

No I haven't - it needs a recovery partition for that and I'll definitely try your suggested method to establish one. I think perhaps all the location services rely on having a recovery partition but I haven't been able to confirm

All the best
Luke

I've just checked the card in my MP 1,1 -> 2,1 and it's a bcm94321, so I must have upgraded it at some point. Location services works fine with that card.

I think MP 2,1s first shipped with BCM4306 which is wireless a/b/g not n.

Incidentally Airdrop is enabled on BCM94322 - A mine of useless information me.

Thanks again,

I just bought a BCM94322 on ebay for £20 (other online auction sites are available) - thanks so much for your help; turns out you are a mine of useful information

Thanks:) Incidentally I've been running the BCM9432 for a couple of years or so in a pair of Macbooks I have here - fitted them, rebooted, Airdrop 'just worked'. In theory they are also 450mb/s capable too.

Just to confirm I ordered and installed a new WiFi card as suggested by Robert and this has fixed the problem. As I purchased and Apple branded BCM94322 I also have airdrop enabled (apparently some people have had difficulty with generic BCM94322 cards).

Thanks to all (and especially Robert)

No problem Luke, glad you got it sorted :)
