Hello, I updated to iOS 5. I notice the location services is always on now. Is this going to kill my battery? Opinions? Solutions?

Thanks,
Chris

Do you know which app is constantly using it? Go to settings > location services and the app with the purple icon next to it is currently using your location. It will have an effect on battery life.

It's "Reminders" it has a cool feature to remind you when your in a certian area. So it must need to constantly update. I turned off that feature for now.

Thanks,
chris

Yeah if you set up a location based reminder it keeps the gps always on so it knows where you are all the time so it can remind you. That feature does drain the battery a lot unfortunately.

I noticed my battery life has been less since I did the upgrade right after 1pm yesterday. I still have location services turned on but none were purple so I checked the system services and found the timezone one was purple so I turned that one off for now to see if this was the battery drain reason.

I turned that off too as it was always on for me. Interesting how Apple by default has the status bar icon switched off so you didn't know these services were being used.

So, if the arrow is purple then location services are being used but if it's white then it isn't?

If it's purple it means it's currently being used. If it's gray it means it has been used in the last 24 hours but isn't being used at the mo. It says underneath in location services.

Yeah, I just didn't know if that only applied to the settings page or if it also applied to the home screen, etc. Thanks!
