I've noticed (like others on these forums) that my 'setting time zone' feature in the location services setting is always using my GPS as indicated by the purple indicator in the top bar.

Seems to drain the battery.. so if I turn this off, wil my phone wstill be able to change time zones if I travel (assuming it will use cell tower signals like most phones instead of gps).. doesn't seem like I really need GPS for this and it seems to drain my battery unnecessarily..

Odd, that doesn't happen on my iPhone 4 with ios5. I have it turned on and no purple arrows unless I use an app that I have set to use location services. Wonder if it is a carrier related problem with the time zone issue. I am on Verizon.

Just wondering, are you in an area where you are close to another time zone? Maybe that is why that feature is active on yours. You can always turn that function back on if you change time zones and notice the time hasn't changed.
