I'm loving Safari 15 so far. Grouping regularly used sites into tab groups means I can easily find regularly used tabs according to particular activities. But if I happen to use a new tab in a one off research while in, for example, my social media group, that tab will remain unless I expressly remove it for my next session.

I'm wondering if it could be possible to 'lock' preferred URL's into tab groups. Those would remain for future sessions. Tabs which were not locked would close.

Just use bookmark folders. Put all your related links in a folder. You can right click and open all links as tabs at the same time.

I would find it helpful. As it is, tab groups haven't become much a part of my workflow and I've gone back to bookmark groups.

I really want to like Tab Groups. I have a few work projects for which they're great. But the behavior that closing a tab (Command-W, as we're all used to) actually removes it from the group makes it impossible to utilize for me. @Martin29 your suggestion seems great to me.

I’ve been using bookmark groups for years. And of course they’re great for remembering those sites I use regularly or even infrequently, but not necessarily on a daily basis. The list of URL’s in a bookmark group can either be very long, or the number of bookmarks be high.

I’m finding tab groups so much better for those sites I use constantly. For example I have a tab for tech review sites, another for social media…. In some cases a site may be in several tab groups.

The only downside I’ve found so far, is that if I happen to visit a site on a one off basis, I need to close the tab, otherwise it will remain in the tab group.

I can’t help thinking that if we could ‘lock’ our preferred URL’s into the group, and any unlocked sites would close at the end of a session. That would tidy up the tabs experience.
