Upgraded from Yosemity to El Cap last week and noticed that many of my files stored on external HD:s are now locked for some strange reason, it`s not all files but just some. For example, i have an external HD with only movies files (all in the same format) and some of them are locked for editing.
What`s even more strange is that if i right-click on a "locked" file and check permissions for that specific file, it says "Read only". But i have no trouble to move the file from the external HD to my Mac so i don`t see why it says Read only?

Can anyone explain these changes and how i get rid of the locking of files?

This whole new security thing in El Cap is very confusing IMO (and frustrating)

Have you tried a Get Info on the external HD, setting Read & Write permissions for your user name and the click the gearbox button an select "Apply to enclosed items..."?
This will set the permissions recursively on every single file on the drive.

Yes, i tried a Get Info on the external HD but there is no option to change anything under permissions, the only thing i can see is "Read & Write" but no gearbox button or anything else.

Without a 3rd party driver, Windows NTFS format disks like yours are read only. You'll need to buy a new driver to make the disk accessible to write. There may be an upgrade or update available for the Tuxera driver you have now.

Oh, you didn't mention it's an NTFS volume. El Capitan disabled your NTFS driver during installation, most likely do to SIP (System Integrity Protection). So you'll need to upgrade to an El Capitan-compatible driver in other to be able to write to it.

So was reading this thread. I was previously using Paragon NTFS and now I can't move any files on NTFS drives. I have contacted them about an update, does anyone know if there is an update coming anytime soon?

Cool yeah I downloaded the update. It is acting strange though. My USB stick and small 2TB drives pop up and no problems, business as usual.......my 2 multi drive enclosures though, do not show up on my desktop now
