My work laptop (2024 MBA 15") hasnt been used in 7 weeks as I work from home and havent traveled needing to use it. I frustratingly forgot my password and now my 'Account is Locked'. I have turned on the laptop in recovery mode to no success - entering my Recovery Key (which is 28 digits and the prompt only allows for 24 digits???)

I cant reset it using Apple ID either. It is legit locked. Do I need to just send it back to our IT guy to erase it and start from scratch? I luckily dont have any info on it I cant upload from my personal PC...so it's not like I'm 'losing' data. Just a couple hours of busy work.

Does anyone have a work around? Would the Genius Bar be able to assist? I am dumbfounded on how there isnt another alternate way in or why 'Reset using AppleID' is not showing up despite using that method before once and my AppleID is actually linked to this product.

If you've got a Recovery key, then FileVault is enabled. Ask your IT if they've got another Recovery key you can try, otherwise the machine will have to be wiped.

When you enter the Recovery key, that's when you're asked if you want to reset the password for the machine.

I went on my phone and enabled Recovery Zoey but it’s the 28 digits with hyphens after 4 characters. So 7 sets of 4. When prompted in the laptop, it’s asking for 6 sets of 4.. unsure how to get the FileVault key? Unless IT has it.
