Locking the computer

I recently bought my first Mac and I have a problem...

I have been running Windows NT/2000/XP for so long now I am used to locking my computer EVERY time I step away, even if its for 30 seconds...and I prefer it this way...

How can I do this on my PowerBook? Is there a similar function I am overlooking?

okay i noticed this yesterday--i'm new too -- go to system preferences, it's in the dock if you haven't moved it. click on security and there's the option to require passwords on waking from sleep. i think that's what you're looking for.

Go in to System Prefs then Security and then tick Require Password to wake computer from sleep or screen saver.

Then go Applications > Utilities > Keychain Access then Preferences and then tick Show status in Menu bar.

This will put a padlock icon in your top menu bar which you can then click on and go Lock Screen

Open Keychain Access. Go to Preferences and in the General Tab, turn on Status on Menubar.

Use the Keychain menubar applet to quickly lock and unlock your computer.

OR

Set up a screensaver with password. Assign Active Screen Corners in Expose Preferences to one of the corners.
