Few months ago a neighbor purchased an iPad 8 and I helped him set it up. He did not want to put in a iPad Code, nor a fingerprint for security. Wasn’t going to place anything important on the computer and he is not computer savvy. Present day, my neighbor received one of those normal updates to download, but he decided to let Apple download it overnight. Didn’t have time to sit through the update. He thought nothing of this thinking it would be simple. However, in the morning it popped up that he had to put in the ID code which he mistakenly put in the Apple ID code, not the six digit iPad code, which he didn’t have in the first place. It did not work of course and locked him out for a short time. Remember, he didn’t have a code to put in the first place nor a fingerprint.
For an unknown reason, Apple sent him an email that he did not request and gave him a six digit code to put in next time. He put the code in, and of course lo and behold, it did not accept it, and now he was locked out for a longer period of time. That time past and he again tried but now he was locked out for even longer period of time. We called Apple and was told that we would have to try again within two days, which we didn’t understand, but we did and again it did not work. We were given some options because we did not have a computer to hook up iTunes and get it back to working status. We tried again and again without success.
It’s sad that we have to go through this. He does not have a car and he is working constantly for a neighbor with Alzheimer’s and can’t leave. So that leaves out going to Apple store 25 miles away, and my only recourse from myself is to purchase a computer since I can’t borrow one from anybody around here and use iTunes to get back to a normal status on his iPad. I understand security, and for my Apple products, I do have a code, fingerprint, or another biometrics, but for a person that never once wanted a code or fingerprint for security, and have to go through this is just sad that there’s not a better way of addressing this. So I’m going to purchase a MacBook Air, and use iTunes to help him.
Sorry for the rant, just had to relieve my frustrations, and perhaps there might be a solution, which I doubt. 🤬
