Logic Board Failure!

okay so i have a imac g5 without the isight and a few months ago it just wouldnt turn on anymore. i didnt bother troubling shooting it because i didnt purchase the apple care. So i went out and bought the new imac and now i realized i have all my stuff store on that old imac. i cant bring it into a store because im not paying all that money just for them to replace something so it can go on for a few hours just so i can take my stuff off...after its on and i get my stuff off the computer is going in my closet or something cause i have no use for it.

I took the back cover off of the computer and only 1 of the 4 diagnostic test lights were on which means theres something wrong. I pressed the 2 buttons near the lights and still nothing happened. I even used a friends power cord. So i called apple and all they could tell me is that they think the logic board is dead and needs to be replaced.

so my question is can i take the hard drive out of the imac g5, put it into my other imac. turn the computer on take all the info on the computer and transfer it to a external hard drive. Then put the normal hard drive back in and transfer the stuff from the external hard drive to the computer?

i know it sounds confusing but it kinda sounds simple at the same time....


please help me out i really need this, i have over 20 thousand pictures on this thing!

Take the harddisk out from your imac g5, put it in an external enclosure and read it conveniently from your new imac. The system disk from a g5 will most probably not boot an intel imac.

okay that doesnt sound to hard, well i hope not lol...where would i get one of those external things.....? i already have my hard drive out of the computer sitting in my drawer. so all would need to do would be put it into that thing your talking about right...?
