Does the logic board serial number match the computer serial number?
My reason for asking is that 4 months ago my sisters G5 17" logic board supposedly got replaced with a new or refurbished logic board but it seems by the workmanship of the board something fishy is going on.
I pulled out the logic board because her computer failed again and this is what I found:

Depends on what you mean by "match".
If you mean does the Serial number in the "About this Mac" or System Profiler match the printed label on the MBP casing in the battery bay then YES it should.
If the logic board is replaced then the serial number in "About this Mac" or System Profiler should be blank. Replacement logic boards should have their 'software' serial number blanked.
If you mean should the serial number on the printed label on the MBP casing in the battery bay or in "About this Mac" or System Profiler match the printed serial number label on the logic board itself the answer is NO.
As for the soldering, it's not the best but most of what you are seeing is the
solder flux. Nothing to worry about. And whilst there MAY be a sign on one or two joints of a little too much solder and/or not enough heat, I'd not be panicked about them at all. They look "ok" but not "perfect".
EDIT: I'm more intrigued about the "Diode-3" label and if that means a part upgrade/fix on that type of logic board. In picture 8 there is a -174? number. What is that whole number and what specific model of machine (presumed iMac) is this?
EDIT2: I'm guessing this is a 1.8 or 2.0 Ghz Ambient Light Sensor G5 iMac. 820-1747
EDIT3: Ahhh... This is one of "those" iMac G5 machines with bad caps. You might even have bad caps in the power supply. I'd really steer away from these first two series of G5 iMacs (if at all possible).
