Production computer went out today. Took it to the local Apple Reseller and they said its either the logic board or the CPU (they also said that when the logic board goes out.. it usually takes out the CPU(s))

So.. they want to charge us about $1244 total for both pieces. Can I buy these pieces online somewhere and install them myself? If so.. where? Thanks

That's installed for the procs and the logic board?

That's a good price, mate.

Better to know exactly which parts died, instead of replacing parts until it works.

However if you do get the parts you will need to also grab ahold of a Apple Service DVD, because you will need to run a thermal calibration on the machine.

Otherwise the machine will run in Hoover mode, or in a crippled MHz mode -- can't remember which.

Hmmmmm

Well.. I'm sure people know more about this than I do.. thats why I'm here asking. If its a good price that we cant beat doing it ourselves or if its really difficult for somebody that doesnt do it all the time to install the pieces then I guess we just go with what they say. Either way, we need the fastest turnaround on this. Its our production machine and I am relegated to our old G4 to do work for now. Problem with that is that I dont have any updated current files on the G4 so anything recent I cant put back to the presses.
