I just purchased the Logitech 4k webcam made for the XDR display

I have it plugged into the USB port on the XDR (which is USB 3.1 since I have the W5700x)

I downloaded the Logitech Camera Settings app but it is basic and offers no Preferences and ability to adjust resolution

I made a FaceTime call to a friend on his iPhone XS and he was laughing at the horrible quality of my video

I tried Quicktime and there is no video at all from the camera

I then ran a test on webcamtests.com and received these results:

Has anyone else run into this? Is there a way to adjust the resolution settings?

Finally got through to customer support
They had me go to a website to test resolution and the resolution was still grainy

They stated I must have received a defective unit
I will return and just keep using my iPhone for video conferences

Make sure you're running USB3 not USB2.

As far as I know it will only run in 4K if connected directly to the Mac. The XDR will only allow for USB 2.0 pass through?

Applications get to choose the resolution of the webcam. Safari only support 1080p. This is not an accurate representation of any attached webcam.

Not saying the webcam isn't broken, just that webcamtests.com is useless for benchmarking webcam hardware.

I'm not sure FaceTime support 4k either. It may limit it's input to 1080p as well.

The W5700 supports DSC meaning the bandwidth needed to run at max resolution is lower than the one needed by Vega cards
So, you think that's USB 3.1, but not from any document.

What I showed you is from Apple. They never said W5700X will make that become USB 3.1. No condition at there, just USB 2.0.

Hmmmm that is interesting as the main reason I waited for the W5700x was because I recall reading that that graphics card would allow the XDR to run at USB 3 speeds

I hope that's true as well. Only allow USB 2.0 from the XDR doesn't sounds right to me. However, I couldn't find anything from Apple about how to "upgrade" that port.

I called Apple support yesterday and they told me it runs at USB 2.0 even with the W5700x -- although the representative did not seem familiar with the what the W5700x was

OK so perhaps the problem was my initially believing that, since I had the W5700x, that the XDR ports would run at USB3

That being said, I am wondering if I should order it again and try it plugged directly into a port on the Mac Pro

Are you using short or long cable that came with camera?
Short cable to back of XDR and long cable to Mac Pro.
Do you see quality difference of image between Face Time and Quck Time.
Do you have HD set to on or off?

Webcam has already been sent back
I was using the short cable connected to the XDR
The camera was never recognized by QuickTime - no video would show up
I downloaded the Logitech Camera Settings app for the webcam and there was no HD setting therein

Let us know once you receive the replacement how it goes. For comparison, here's the webcam I'm running with my Mac Pro 7,1. I dual-boot in Bootcamp and this model is great as it does facial recognition under Windows 10.

FYI, its not directly connected to the Mac port. It's connected via a Thunderbolt 3 dock and then to a USB-C port.

The XDR hub is USB 3.1 gen 1 with a W5700X

Here are the camera settings on the 7,1 and camera to back of XDR. I agee that the camera image quality is not good based on its cost and supposed 4k resolution. I blocked out image... just to show settings.

But are you getting USB-2 or 3 from the back of the display?

Exactly what I am wondering - here is my System Information

What is the USB 3.1 Hub actually referring to?

I have an almost identical set up to OKiRun.. so that's cool.

I have the Logitech 4k Pro camera. Using the longer cable, I connected the camera to one of my external thunderbolt 3 raids, rather than my Mac Pro. My Mac Pro's ports are spoken for basically. With this, I was able to open Quicktime Player, go to File / New Movie Recording.. and then on the actual video pop up window, click the down arrow beside the record button to switch quality from high (1920x1080) to Maximum. It then switched to 4k mode.

This all said.. in Facetime, wow. Potato camera. Low res and then some, no idea why.

I will try this. But yes... facetime is horrible.

Update: Did the switch in Quicktime Player to Maximm setting. A little better but far from quality 4k look.
