Does anyone have have the Logitech base
https://www.logitech.com/en-gb/product/base-ipad-pro-stand

Charger stand and use an iPad pro 12.9 with it? I believe you have to remove to charge with it?

Is it a pain to do so? I was hoping to have a smart cover and maybe get this.

What are your opinions on the base now after a while of using? It's on offer at the moment for £55?

Is there a lip to not scratch the iPad where it rests?

How long does it take to charge? They say 7 hours, is this correct? Is it noticeably slower than the lightning port?

Is it ok to leave it on the base charging all the time, what when using and then overnight?

Any other comments please
Thanks

Removing the Smart Cover is easy unless you have muscle problems.

The Base is nice. I have mine on a coffee table connected to an Apple branded lightning to USB C cable then to a 30W charger. Charges just fine though I haven't timed to see how fast. The part the iPad sits on has a silicone strip with the Smart Connector pogo pins sticking up from the silicone strip. The top edge of the Base also has this silicone so none of the aluminum touches the iPad. It's safe to leave the iPad on the Base. If it weren't, it would not be MFi certified by Apple.

Thanks for that. Do you use a case with it at all? ASK or smart cover etc? Is yours the 12.9"?

So you have upgraded your power supply as such? I've been reading about it and it seems to charge slow with standard supplied charger. Why did you go for the other charger, is it an Apple make one?

If you get a chance could you do a mini test and try charging with yours and the supplied to see difference?

Does it work with the pro 10.5" reports some say yes but nothing on Logitech site.

Think I may jump in as it's reduced at the moment to £55 brand new.

I thought it won't work with the SC or ASK? You need to be able to access the Smart Connector pins.

Yes at first I didn't realise that the smart connector was on the LHS, and that's where the smart cover spine is, so needs removing. Seems strange, why didn't Apple put on other side?

Because the ASK also functions as a Smart Cover and it needs to connect to the smart connector.

I have it with the 12.9, it works very well.

Just get a cheap Bluetooth keyboard and it works well as a sort of desktop setup. My iPad pretty much lives there, and it’s always charged when I take it places.

Sorry for the late reply. I do have a case. Khomo white back cover + Apple midnight blue Smart Cover. I simply pull the Smart Cover off when I want to dock my 10.5" iPad Pro. in the Base. The charger I use is an Anker PD 30W charger. I don't even know if the iPad can "fast charge" through its Smart Connector, but I got the charger on sale from Amazon.

So the 10.5" works fine on the Logi base ok as well? Been asking Logitech on twitter, email, chat, forum for an answer and nothing...

Why did you chose the 30W charger? Just for speed, or when using it to charge up?

Mine is currently connected to a 10W apple one, but I'm thinking of buying a bigger wattage, but not sure what the max is allowed for the Logi base and smart connector?

Would you say your 30W charges it faster, and when using over the Apple10/12W iPad charger? Just Logitech state to use the included iPad charger.

Could you link to the cable and charger you use please

Thanks

I saw the base and thought it would be really cool to use with my new 12.9 iPad. I was very underwhelmed to say the least. Charging was very slow, much slower then when you charge it normally. You put it in sideways in the base to charge it. When you put it sideways you are essentially plugging the charging cable into the base, instead of the iPad which you could easily do now as it's sideways. It's way faster to charge by not using the base and just connecting into the iPad. I returned the base and I bought the USB-c charger and cable from Apple. Now my iPad charges super fast and I can use it with my iPhone 7+ which charges fast as well.

Love the charging base - have 2 that I use at work - great having my iPads change casually throughout the day as I work and makes it easy to pick up and put back down depending on if I want an iPad handheld or on the desk. It is a slower charge, but doesn’t bother me as it allows me to work all day long and leave the office with charged iPads.

There is rubber protecting the contact points from scratches. I got both of mine refurbished for $59.

I think that is design of the smart connector though, I hear what you say though. I think the base is designed to be used and it trickle charges and it's somewhere you'll always store your iPad and so when you put it down and away it will always be charged, exactly like the use below.

That's good price, looks a great setup there you have! is that a 10.5" as well? If so as it's not advertised (wasn't out then), does it charge the 10.5" fine as well?

What chargers are you using with both bass please? The included Apple 12W ones?

Thanks

I had this very same thought when I saw the product - was it able to even charge the 12.9 fast enough while I was using it? I wonder if it can support fast charging... Then it would be a nice desktop companion

That is the 10.5” iPad Pro - works with it great. I use the 12W charger with both as that is the maximum input the stand will pass through to the iPad. As long as you keep brightness at a reasonable level then the 12.9 will charge from the base. With the 12.9 I do think of it as a trickle charge and I’m not going to the stand to get a rapid charge to head out the door. I’m working many hours on the iPad and want the percentage to go up slowly or if doing intensive work with the screen brightness really high at least combating the battery from depleting as it otherwise would when I’m working. It does it’s job great and it’s wonderful not needing to plug in the Lightning cord as I work. A very clean setup that makes it frictionless to move between the different modes of operation (great not having to worry about a cord when I want to pick the iPad up to read something or do something handheld).

Wondering if I should put in a wall socket with USB to charge via the Logi base.

It's just the Apple UK charger sticks out a lot, if I replace the UK wall socket it has an included USB and used that for a neater install. Anyone done this? There's some that say share 3.1A over 2 USB so think with one device plugged in it gets full 3.1A so enough to charge via Logi base smart connector?

Well I've ordered a wall socket with integrated USB in. It says it delivered up to 3.1A depending on the device plugged in.

I didn't like where the logi base will live with the Apple wall charger sticking out so this way will only have the cable.

I'm also hoping it charges a little faster than the 10W Apple one which only outputs 2.1A. Obviously depends on what the smart connector allows in though - does anyone know?

Thanks

Oh yes sorry - the equivilant of the 12W iPad Charger Apple bundles in the USA with the newer iPads is what my understanding is of the max power the stand will be able to send over to the iPad.
