Logitech Computer Speakers For Apple TV 2

I'm loving my new Apple TV 2. I've got some Logitech computer speakers (these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0..._m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=03M3XV86J638WGPJ57K2), and I would love to hook them up to my Samsung LCD so that I can use them as my primary speakers for my Apple TV.

This cord here: http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Audio-Cable-Splitter-1-Mini/dp/B00004Z5CP was mentioned several times when I Googled the topic. They look like they would plug in to the back of my TV under "DVI" which is the same source on my TV that the Apple TV uses. If I bought this, would this setup work? If not, what options do I have here?

that would not work, the plug on your TV next to the DVI is an input.

there might be an audio out on your tv, but a lot of times it will not output audio that comes in from a digital source.

you would need a digital to analog converter, like this one from monoprice.
that would then plug into the optical out on the appletv. and your speakers would plug into that.
 
I have a Digital Audio Out (Optical) plug on the back of the TV, similar to the one on the back of the Apple TV, but I don't have anything that looks like it could plug into that cable from the link you gave.

Right, I've got a plug that plugs into the "headphone" jack on my laptop. I'm not sure how that goes with the cord from your link.

Basically, the speakers plug into the back of the subwoofer, and there's a cord from the "remote" that controls the volume that plugs into the computer. I assume it's this cord that needs to be plugged into a cord that runs from it to the Apple TV? I'm not all that familiar with speakers, maybe you could tell me what my setup should look like for all this to function?
 
If they are like other logitech speakers I have owned it is only a headphone port where the cord fits- which some tv's have (my sony does) however I have plugged headphones into that port and nothing happens. I assume that I needed to change a setting in the tv software to use that port for audio. YOu may need to as well if you even have a headphone port.

So I agree that RCA jacks may be your best bet, but you will need to find an adaptor for RCA MALE end and a FEMALE 3.5mm headphone end. The one in WAW74's link is not the right one- unfortunately it has a male 3.5mm I would think that Radio Shack should carry that if you have one close- or can be ordered online for cheap. However note that it may not work or not work well.

Great, that cord looks like something that would work with my TV. I've got red and white plugs on the back of my TV under "DVI Audio In" and one that just says "Audio Out."

With that cord, would I just plug in the cord from my speakers that goes in the headphone jack into the female part, then plug in the red and white males into my TV? How would this then work with the Apple TV?

The Apple TV puts audio into your tv, so you need to find a way for the audio to output to your speakers. depending on your tv the ports in your tv will be set up different.

What ever cord you use to send your Apple TV signal to your tv will be numbered (ie- video in #1, Optical Video #3, etc.) Figure out what # is on that cord's port. Then you want to find the red and white jacks that have that same number but are labeled output. That is where you would plug the speaker adaptor into.

I don't believe you will need to change your Apple TV connection cable, but you might. I have no idea how Apple TV's connect to tv's since i don't own one.:mad: HOpefully your tv has the right set up ports for ya to make this work.

If you can get a pic of the back of the tv ports and post here we can guide you better (Just make sure your TV doesn't fall off the stand takin' a pic!!!:eek:)

Awesome it sounds like this will work! I found this picture here: http://www.q7db.co.uk/images/Technical Samsung Plasma PS50Q97HDX Rental Hire Screen Rear-b.jpg, which is very close to what the back of my TV looks like. Two differences: I have two HDMI ports, and instead of "DVI Audio" (like on the linked picture) my TV says "DVI Audio Out." My Apple TV's source is HDMI1/DVI.

My guess then is the speaker plug will go into one end of the RCA cord and then the red and white ends will end up plugged into the "Audio Out" ports? And I assume then that Apple TV will output sound to my Logitech speakers rather than my TV's speakers?

Yes, it does sound like it will work. what happens to the audio is your apple tv sends it to the tv and if something is connected to the audio output it sends the output to the speakers. You might still need to explore the audio/sound settings in the software on your tv to send the audio there. With some tv's you can have the sound come out the tv speakers AND the external speakers.

Just curious- how are you connecting the Apple tv- HDMI? OPtical?

Apple TV is connected by HDMI, to the HDMI1/DVI source. I'll look around for sound options on the TV, but what you told me makes sense (and is good news); I was worried I'd have to buy another cord that would directly plug into the Apple TV from the TV.

"Audio Out" is where the RCA plugs go, right?

Yes, audio out is where they go. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Can't hurt to spend $2 to see if you can get it to work.

I have a logitech speaker system that I use for my iPod Touch and works pretty well with the subwoofer!

Ordered the cord from Amazon a few hours ago, should be here in five to seven days I was told.

I too love my Logitech speakers, the subwoofer is huge for 2.1 computer speakers! Can't wait to hook them up and steam some music to them. They will make an already great product even better.
