iPad mini Logitech Ultrathin Mini Bluetooth Keyboard + iPad Mini seems pretty amazing!!!

I'm a college student so to me a computer (PC / Mac or even a tablet computer) has to have the following:
- Great battery life
- Ultra portability
- E reading
- Word document processing
- Small amount of gaming

It seems like the mini has these things but is a much MUCH more portable computer (albeit tablet computer), with the logitech ultrathin keyboard than anything I've ever seen before

I wonder if this combination could completely replace a PC/Mac for those that simply browse the web, watch youtube videos, facebook, play games, and take notes for college?

An iPad can do all the things you list.

However, if you are serious about your college work I would still reccomend a Laptop.

Being able to view reference documents and websites side by side to a Word document is essentially what you spend a lot of your time doing, and today it is impossible on an iPad.

Also, if your college requires you to upload your essays onto the college website, you may find this impossible on an iPad.

With jailbreak you have Quasar that lets you run any app in window mode, and jailbreaking is a 10 minute, automated process on any device right now. Then you have Splashtop and other remote PC options like I mention. Or just grab the phone you're very likely to have in your pocket and use that as a second screen.

It's Taposé that's in the picture. It works better for true split screen, since Notes Plus is more designed to have you switch back and forth between two screens using a movable divider.

This may be the best solution!

The combo of the good Logitech Ultrathin Mini BT Keyboard and the iPad Mini may be the optimal solution for all of us who need a very portable unit (or combo of united units) that also provides us with a decent keyboard and battery time. The fact that the Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard IMO has a very good layout, is of great importance when you are a writer. Especially, I am thinking of the fact that the right shift key is big enough and is located well on the keyboard (NOT too close and "inserted between" the arrow keys that is something we see on some (not good) keyboards).

I am really looking forward to this keyboard to come to Europe, and especially Scandinavia, where I live. (It's important that the three specific Scandinavian (incl. Norwegian) letters are present on the keyboard.)

In fact, the coming of this keyboard is for me the trigger to buy an iPad Mini!


(BTW: It seems that the keyboard (not by Logitech) seen in Cptnodegard in post no. 3 does not have enough physical keys on it to also include the three specific Scandinavian keys.)

No, and it's not likely that you'll find a scandinavian keyboard for $26 on a Chinese site.

That being said, I am Norwegian, but I mostly type in English, as Norwegian is imho a useless excuse for a language

For lurkers, Quasar is not available yet for jailbroken iOS 6.1.

How did you get a mouse to interact with the Mini? Or was that with Splashtop? I couldn't tell for sure.

Four-finger swipe left -> You're in Pages.
Four-finger swipe right -> You're back in Safari.

You can even hold hold down your fingers and swipe across the screen to view the desired portion of either the document or the web page.

No, since the iPad probably wouldn't fit in the section Logitech made for it to rest in. You could however use the keyboard with a CoverBuddy and Smart Cover as long as you don't mind using the keyboard without it being connected physically to the iPad.

I also think Logitech's magnets will eat away at the anodized finish. There's a reason why Apple ditched the metal for the iPad mini's Smart Cover.

Bigger? No, but they appear to be metal unlike the Smart Covers which have the polyurethane over the magnets. That's why I think Logitech's will scratch the iPad minis.

I am concerned that the magnets are too weak and with the metal hinge, I fear it will scratch the hell out of the mini. Especially in a bag as the connection breaks.

Yeah, I'd personally put some clear tape over the magnets to insure it wouldn't scratch the iPad mini. As for the magnets, you may have to buy one and see for yourself or wait until someone reviews one. Of course you can always return it if the magnets aren't that strong.

Metal magnets and the Mini

I use a very thin clear skin on my mini (for some reason, Mac Rumors won't publish the brand name) if you look up clear matte skins for iOs devices, the company should come up. I think the skin will protect the mini aluminum backing from the metal covered magnets. I would also probably purchase another blank skin with no cutouts for the back of the Logitech to protect it from scratches as well. There a number of other manufacturers who make printed and plain skins (versus a shell). These are a 3M product with a dry application a little more thicker and much stronger than scotch tape.

I store a thin microfiber cloth (the type used to clean eyeglasses) between the keyboard and the face of the iPad, I have done this with my iPad 2 and the Zagg keyboard and it works fine and does not interfere with the sleep function. It is nice to have the microfiber cloth with you at all times to insure a clean screen.
