Hey All.

My wife and I run a small non-profit on the side for rescue horses and disadvantaged kids.

We could use a logo for this organization, and I was hoping someone here would be willing to help. I have pretty good computer skills, but not so much on the artist side.... What might take me 5 days could likely be done by some of you in a few hours....

Our non-profit is called 'Broken Arrow Ranch'. I would like the logo to somehow include the letters 'B.A.R' as part of the logo. Should have a western look and theme. Perhaps somehow incorporate a broken arrow into it. Nothing too big or complex for the logo, as we would want to incorporate it into some stationary, or hats, or whatever....

You can view the website I put together for our non-profit here:
www.brokenarrowranch.ca

I'm not really able pay for this, so it would need to be a donation of time.

I have the adobe creative suite of tools, so I can work with whatever formats if someone even just wanted to jump start it and give me some tips to finish it off......

So, if you would like to help, I would love to hear from you. Please send an email or pm.

Regards,

I do a bit of freelance work for local nonprofits in my community. Unfortunately, I charge a fee for my work. I have to keep food on my table somehow.

If you're unable to locate a designer on these forums willing to help, I have some suggestions for you...

First, contact a local or regional advertising agency or design firm. Many of them take on small pro bono clients to help out their various communities. And depending on where you're located, there may be certain tax incentives involved. They may also be willing to work with you to create more than just a logo.

Another option might be to contact a local design school to see if any students might be interested in volunteering their time.

If you still can't find a logo designer, you may want to consider budgeting a few hundred dollars for an identity package for the next fiscal year. You may not be able to get a logo designed for free, but you might be able to get one at a steep discount, as many designers will offset part of their rate with an in-kind donation to your organization.

Good luck with your project.

very often you can go to a local graphic/design shop..maybe say you can put their name somewhere on pamphlets or something.

if i was a business owner...i would gladly do you project but would like it if you put my business name somewhere so maybe i can get a few clients out of it.

I have had literally 15 minutes to put these together, and I'm no graphic designer
but I thought I might as well contribute :)

They are just black and white at the moment, and in all honesty a total mess, but I might as well post them:

As I said, I'm not a graphic designer, and they are just 3 random ideas.
I haven't had any time to work with them as I'm just about to go out.

...or you could contact a local University that has a Graphics Department.

In college, it wasn't unusual for local businesses to approach the head of our department to see if something that might be needed by the business owner would mesh with the curriculum of the class.
We did a whole business identity in one of my senior classes.

The winning group wasn't paid for their time, but instead got ipods.
The rest of the class received ipod shuffles for the work they did as well.
...and were offered internships with the company that counted as course hours.

Edit:
or if you host charity events, you could offer free tickets or something of value as "trade"

Well most artists are non-profits because they don't know how to charge enough to make a living.

Free pony rides for life!!! Woot!

I've recently helped a local non-profit, because i know it wasn't a scam...and the money really went to help children born with disfigured limbs.

But like my friend, who put together an event for a non-profit, was telling the venue owner that was trying to up their fee when they found out there was going to be alcohol GIVEN away, "Do you really want to take money away from helping mentally challenged children?" (Needless to say, her firm ground got her the original agreed upon price for the venue)

All artists were paid for their time put into working on the website and advertising collateral...and there was a raffle and silent auction that raised money for the non-profit.

There are always ways to pay your contributors...it's just how creative you want to get with the word "pay"

I don't claim to be a "Graphic Designer", but I do do a lot of desktop publishing for non-profit community organisations. I'll see what I can come up with. It may take me a few days though.

A quick Google Image search did turn up this Texas website with the same name, which may or may not be a problem:

DO NOT USE THIS LOGO - It's copyright someone else

It's almost the complete opposite of your's ranch - they are apparently a hunting ranch. :(

I've done a bit of playing with some ideas for a logo and here are the four better ones (the screen resolution JPEG format has messed them up a little, but it's enough to give you the idea). I couldn't find a good enough arrow image to use, so had to stick with horses.

These are all black and white, but they could be colourised.

Let me know if you like any / all of them and want them in a more useful format (the originals are Adobe Illustrator 9 files) or if have any ideas you would like to try.

I'm no good at drawing, but an animated version where the horse runs across and the words appear out of the dust cloud might be good for a website / PowerPoint presentations. :)

I think designer would be happy to donate time to a worthy cause, I wouldn't mind having a crack at it...

But I wouldn't be able to create much before next week because I have two deadlines for the 01NOV09 :(
