it is for the banner and we are thinking of using the logo elsewhere on the page

well we are a student run group of multimedia-go-to guys. We are putting up our website which is quite minimalistic. We are thinking of having a banner with one simple logo. The banner is also going to have flash photo randomiser.

Alright, it's Friday, and it's been a long week and I'm very thick-headed. ;)

But I still don't know what kind of help you need. Are you looking for us to critique the logo? Or to help redesign it? Convert it? Suggest a new name?

Instead of having the shadow at the back you could have a reflection of the main letters. and the other words to the side? Mind you I'm not an expert so my suggestion is probably crap!

please feel free to critique the logo as well as help in redesigning it guys.
gracias!!

cwed can you tell me how i can create a real reflection? I mean the glassy stuff

have a look at this link Here To be honest I'm not that good in photoshop but I am learning!

guys please give me some ideas...I am in a tough spot right now

I'm no design expert, so take this as you will. My opinion is that there is too much empty space surrounding the main logo. Even if you keep the length, since it will be a banner header, you may want to consider slimming it down vertically.

Also, you may want to have an "alternative" version for spaces where the full banner won't fit, potentially just the text part of the logo, either on a blue background or in black text.

Overall, though, I like the clean look of the logo.

I would get rid of that shadow behind the dmt
it makes the middlebury college text look a little alien, since the dmt clearly has a light source and the text doesn't...rather odd

I think you're moving in the right direction, though...

I'll echo the comment about the weird shadow, and add that the 't' is really bothering me. Did the 'm' fart or something? The 't' seems to be edging away from it, close it in a little.

I'll third the shadow bit, it's way to big...if you have to do one make it short and subtle. I think the dmt needs to be a little bit bigger (no much, maybe two point). Instead of the shadow, try putting the black text in a black box (then change the text to white. That might make it seem more solid.

Since I haven't seen blue velvet post yet, I'll give you the olde "It needs to look good in black and white before you add color, and you should be able to read it clearly if you print it out in a one inch square." Sound advice, since you never know when someone is going to print out your webpage and hand it out to people.

So far you have a good handle on that, but visually the logo needs something to convey both the digital media and the educative parts of the project. So keep that advice in mind when you add whatever you are going to add to convey those aspects in the logo.

Good luck.

What do you think now guys? I applied some of the things you told me.
I will greatly appreciate some critique and help with the logo

Generally have more time for tech-related graphics probs than getting involved in crits. Less subjectivity and less chance of hurting other's feelings.

Well I don't have any problems with criticisms and I will appreciate tech-related comments as well. so please.....

it's a definite improvement, but...

as a logo, it's utterly dependent on color for contrast and separation. Why don't you work with this idea a little and see what you can do with just black and white? I think you're on the right track, for sure.

also, for the "Middlebury College"
I'd either use the same font you used for DMT, or I'd use the college's official font, which looks like some permutation of Times...the one you're using is (no offense) not great...

EDIT: it actually is the same font, isn't it? Try using the college's font instead...

well I did this one. I feel like the times font-face looks much better.

Also, be aware that DMT is an illegal psychadelic drug.

with that in mind...
this is very rough and needs fixing, btw...but it might be a better solution. Your DMT with the overlapping letters isn't quite working so well as it might.
