Thank you all for taking the time for helping me. I don't mind being openly criticized seeing how this is just a hobby of mine. I actually gained a lot of respect for design artists for how creative they are.

what about something like this? kinda plays down the "E" of the plug...

Yah thats what I've been playing around with. I think I initially made the plugs a little to fat and short.

How many times have I heard, 'I'm not a designer but here's the one logo concept I came up with"? Perhaps I'll retire from the salaried logo design business and enter the free logo critique business. There is much more of a demand.

At any rate, do more research. I'm quite certain your father has more than extension cords and bolts of electricity in his company truck. There's all sorts of wires and conduit and tools that can form the basis for interesting visuals.

Did anyone ask for your input? If you don't want to help out with your opinion then don't bother*- there are plenty of people on here who are willing to help.
Word of advice, next time you see a thread called 'logo critique' or similar .... DON'T OPEN IT! Easy, don't worry you don't need to thank me for my help.

On the logo... I think you've done a great job. The second one is really nice if you just neaten up a bit and play with the colours. I do like the first one a lot but don't think it's exactly right for what you want, really nice execution though.

OK well I tried playing around with the colors a little bit. I really want to keep the orange. I also tried to incorporate the "electric" more into it instead it dangling at the bottom and changed the prongs a bit.

I still don't think the colours are there yet. i would say the gray would be better darker and the orange needs to be more vibrant –*it looks washed out right now

I really like how this has progressed, you've come a long way from the original. I'd definitely keep the "ELECTRIC" the same width as the "MDK" as per your latest version, and make the font a little heavier to compete with the MDK.

Personally I prefer the prongs more as they were in your original (post #10); somehow it creates a better balance between "D" and the plug within - or maybe somewhere between the two versions.

I personally like the newest revision. The prongs aren't too big nor too small... The electric spread across looks nice too. However, I think I preferred the colors a bit better on the previous efforts.

Any way to tighten the word "electric"? I think it would benefit the composition. Maybe you could talk the client into using "MDK Electrical", thus adding two letters. Maybe that's a cop-out. Just a thought...

Electric is probably too small. Not sure what size you're designing the logo on screen but generally it's a good idea to design your logo to the smallest size it will ever be used. Generally, this is on a business card. You can always scale up the logo without a problem. My guess is if you shrink that logo down to where it would sit on a business card, the word electric will be too small and too thin visually.

Ok well I decided to take a new direction and use something else besides the bolt. Do you guys think this one is any better than the previous logo?

Edit: For some reason the quality and colors came out kinda bad... but you get the idea.

I really like the concept I think the idea is solid and some minor refinements and you've got yourself a very nice logo.

I really like the second revision to your logo, however im not a fan of the orange? i think possibly a bolder colour that would stand out more.

Could try using a lightbulb symbol?

Logo

it's all good, i've change the current one, and added my own! :)

New fonts please! That horizontal bar across the K looks odd.

It's getting there (like the subtlety of the plug), but that is one ugly font.

Show us 5 or 6 variants. I hate it when people come on here and show just the one logo!

And not only fonts, show us it with some solid colour - white out of an oval, or a square. Look beyond 3 letters on a white background.

I definitely had no difficulty in noticing the plug inside the D. Very well done. I like the deeper orange as well.

Also, I'm not really sure about the quirky legs on the K. Guess it's just a matter of preference.

That one's really good, except for one minor change.
enlarge the type size of ELECTRIC, and lower the character spacing, just slightly so its still inline with MDK
