Lol but seriously these Wifi issues

I know its been covered countless times, but lmao, its starting to hit me now how the hell did this even come out? On my school network I have played with everything and I can't even test out Yosemite's own netflix improvements without the video stopping every couple minutes##.

Its a total laughing stock I can't get work done anymore, I almost feel like this is law suit worthy.

Hell sometimes i browse the web just fine even if the wifi icon is cycling through the bars.

At this point Im just giving up and laughing. Because seriously, with the billions in the bank, its pretty funny Apple didn't get this one right. Especially the fact that they're actually making us wait for 10.10.1, there should have been an emergency update like the 8.0.2 that fixes this issue.

OP never stated he has evidence of a fix, he is merely comparing how Apple quickly released iOS 8.0.2 to resolve some big issues iOS 8 had and that Apple should have done the same for Yosemites.

I'm also affected by this issue and agree that Apple should have released a fix ASAP.

To have an update there has to be a fix developed. He says they "are making us wait"...well that is only true if a fix has been developed already, they may not have managed to resolve it yet.

If a fix is released very quickly then it is likely the bug was already known and a fix in train at the time of the buggy release, that is the truth of SW development cycles and timescales.

Not a hint of issues here on a 2008 iMac or a 2014 Air. The Air has been on enough networks to feel comfortable with this statement. Clean installs on both.

The issue seems to only affect people who upgraded from mavericks without a clean install.

In the case of 8.0.1, that was a major bug that rendered iPhone 6's unusable. They fixed it immediately. I am sure they were not aware of that bug until it was released.

Personally, I believe, this bug seriously impairs Yosemite's use. Especially in a day where everything is connected to the internet. I see it as almost selfish that they are not prioritizing this fix.

In my experience the issue OP mentions is the slightly less reported one that only happens on WPA2 Enterprise networks. It's not the main wifi issue of being unable to connect, but a dropping issue. It's been a problem since the first beta back in the summer and seeing as how WPA2 Enterprise is an industry standard for business networks, it's absolutely pathetic that Apple doesn't have a fix for it yet.

Lets surmise that the issue is in some way related to the new functions used in Yosemite, this seems reasonable given Mavericks had no such prevalent WiFi issues reported AFAIK - there is a fix then for the OP's issue in rolling back to Mavericks.

That he had the issue is down to Apple however continuing to have an issue when there is a perfectly good rollback available....well thats down to the OP.

I'm sure Apple are working on it but remember many many Macs are working just as they intended, they will need to understand why that is and make sure none of them are broken by the fix.

Smacks of a previously unknown WiFi hardware variation to me...

Precisely. WPA2 Enterprise, my school network. However, even on my home network (WPA2 Personal) things weren't so nice either.

I had problems with WPA2 Enterprise in the past on a network. I worked closely with the network engineers and we did some inspection. We then noticed that the certificate they used wasn't complete. The windows machines didn't moan and let this continue. However my MBA kept dropping it due to a possibly insecure network, my Linux penetration test laptop did exactly the same. I made them update their certificate and do it properly. And voila all devices started to work. It was hard work as the bunch of muppets didn't believe since all the windows machines were fine.

Have a look at your schools network.

My issues seem to be worse after the latest update. At home on my personal network, performance is good, but at work on the school's network I'm virtually dead in the water. If I use the school's VPN software, things are much more stable, not perfect, but usable.

My issue is also still not fixed with 10.10.1. My wifi shows as connected when waking from sleep but doesn't actually work. I have to cycle my wifi off and on every time the computer wakes up to get the internet working again. It will also randomly drop. I haven't really taken note of the security used everywhere, but I'm WPA2 personal at home.

Interesting.

I feel like I had it worst as my Wifi could not hold steady for more than a couple minutes at a time, and I would constantly have to turn wifi off then on to fix, but surprisingly this update fixed it. 24 hours in and my connection has not been interrupted as long as I've been looking.

Same issue as me. It's seriously annoying.
