Hi, does anyone else experience painfully long times "opening files" on your 27" i7?

While my programs launch OK, when I click on "file - open" it takes 1 - 2 minutes of beachballing before the file opening dialogue comes up. This issue is in any program, but Handbreak 64 has the most pronounced problem, it seems.

I have 12 GIG RAM, so the memory isn't an issue.

there is a serious problem as even my iMac g3 opens files nearly instantly , and i have handbreak too and i only have a 4x dvd drive in the iMac
have you done all the updates and if you have upgraded the ram did you reset pram ?repaired permissions ?

Yep - my Macbook Air is instant; however this 27" giant monster behaves strangely. I've updated everything, reset the PRAM, did all the other shamanic dances I could think of. I even reinstalled the OS (albeit from the Time Machine clone).

Not quite sure what to do next.
