I have had an iCloud apple account since 2007 but my oldest emails that I can find don't go back this far.

Are oldest emails automatically deleted for some reason?

How can I search for an email from 2008 for example?

My icloud storage level currently has 2gb free out of 5gb total.

As far as I know, iCloud doesn't delete emails. I would expect them to still be there but if they're gone; maybe someone else can weigh in on why?

Have you tried viewing the emails through the iCloud web based interface? I've had a look through but I wouldn't be surprised if there is a limited number of headers that are downloaded so it is possible that those emails are accessible via the web based interface.
