There use to be a link that recommended buying hardware when it was new or still fairly new. If the hardware in question was toward the end of it's life cycle, it recommended waiting for the upgrade. IF this link was on MacRumers, I can't find it. Anyone know the thread I'm referring to?

Buyer's Guide
Thanks, exactly what I was looking for!!! I've been thinking of upgrading my 2013 MBA due to it's apparent lack of future iOS upgrade potential. On the other hand, there is NOTHING wrong with my present unit that gets used almost daily. I see it on eBay from $300-$440. With the new i3 unit at $999, it would seem to be a cheap upgrade.

I have an early 2015 MBA that has 4GB of RAM so tasks like development don’t work too well. Plus 1280x800 or was it 1366x768 wasn’t that great. Bought the MBA 2020 and it works for me. Beautiful display. Great speakers. Camera sucks since it’s 2020 and still uses a 720p camera for video conference calls. But otherwise I have some .NET Core libraries that I use that don’t have ARM support and I’m not sure about ARM support for .NET Core out of the box with the new ARM systems due out in probably Oct.

I say go for it and maybe up the RAM if you do anything heavy. 8GB suffices for me.
