so picked up my new air yesterday after seeing the most recent xbench scores, and this is what i found. needless to say, the apple store swapped it out for another model though i am VERY curious how this clearly flawed/defect laptop made its way into a box and into the store.

the paper is taped to the lid of the mba with masking tape on the top and bottom.

interesting, the paper was under the plastic wrapping. you can see the sides of the mba peeking out from around the paper.

Darn you for not photographing the actual defect!

"Top to bottom offset" "Display to top gap"
WTF?

I read over at Apple Discussions that people are claiming there is some sort of "play" with their displays. I don't understand what they're describing, but now I'm wondering.

I assume this is the 1.86 SSD?

On a side note : Newest FAIL photo available now!

This is part of Steve's cheap ass quality control.

Apple is all about collecting our money without even bothering to spend some money for their QC depeartment if there is any

Dear All,

This is sad news... It took me over 5 MBA's (first gen) to get one that is decent but still not 100% flawless in construction. All had gaps' dent's, little damages and bad mounted screens. My current one has a half sink away trackpad, a dent on the corner of the case that bite my wrist while typing. I truly hoped that the build quality of this REV B product was much better :( So sad to hear this...

With kind regards,
Bas

If there was no quality control then how come this fault was picked up and flagged?

Suggests to me the QA didn't fail entirely. Course it was never meant to get into the retail channel.

Yeah, way to extrapolate. Clearly Apple has no quality on any products, based on this incident and the reports here. They're all bad!!! ZOMG!!!

Yeah, it was either just a quarantining failure (the notebook either didn't get pulled off the line when it should have, even though it was tagged) or else it was actually repaired and the repairing team did not remove the tag before putting it back in the line. I could actually believe either.

Let me know if any of the defects that we have been seeing has ever been seen on a Vaio for example.

This fault was picked and yet the computer was packaged, shipped and sold.

If you want to defend a company because you love it more than yourself, then try to be reasonable because mistakes like this one are totally not acceptable and the OP should have not returned the machine for an exchange only. He should have gotten more than that.

We have seen “defects that we have been seeing” on every mass produced product since the history of mass produced products.

It is practically impossible to get each item 100% perfect, 100% of the time.

Sony VAIO computers ship with faults and defects as well.

If you want to defend a company because you love it more than yourself, then try to be reasonable
I'm not defending Apple, of course this machine should never left the store. But saying Apple has no QC control department even though someone must have been doing quality control for the problem with this MacBook Air to be flagged up is just completely illogical.

Keep the childish insults for high school. Let's just stick to the topic hey…

You still haven't explained your reasoning for why an item which has been flagged as faulty is proof that the company who manufactured it has no quality control.

Instead you revert to more insults.

I was once given a very valuable piece of advice, which was that sometimes if you have nothing good to say it is best to say nothing at all.

I like that advice and I hope you apply it to your comments instead of accusing your fellow members of being childish for not agreeing with you.

I commeted on the faults that we have been seeing on Apple's computers who claims to have quality as first priority in their production.

You do not have to like my comments but also do not fight me because from your tone of defending the company I can tell that you are a fanboy who keeps defending the company no matter what we see.

We deserve better from Apple for what we are paying. If you do not like it, then go and enjoy your Apple products and stop posting in this thread because you would take an Apple computer even if it was broken.

BTW, I have never seen any other branded computers with the same cosmetic issues that I have seen on MBAs.

a) I think we all agree that Apple should not have shipped this, and have better quality control

b) Dude, just own up to the fact that you're completely wrong that Apple has no QA based on one episode. Finally, stop name-calling; you look foolish when your defensive posture consists of no real retort, just vapid responses. Go to Gizmodo or other gadget blogs and start trolling the Apple posts there, if you feel compelled.

I do not mean to troll. I have an iMac and a MBA and I just do not like what the OP got.

I did not mean to say that Apple has NO QC at all, but that was part of the frustration due to what the OP got.

Why are you all over Apple, is it yours or his? Grow up and try to look after the consumers.

Grow up?

I'm not going there, folks.

The first part of your post started out fine. Yes, I freaking AGREE APPLE should OWN UP to this. Jesus, dude.
