Looking After the Battery

I Have had my 13" a week now, mostly use it for surfing at home, what is the best method to look after the battery for a long as possible, its getting about 5 hours of use a day so i would need to charge it every 2 days.

should i use it on mains for the majority of the time then cycling the battery once a week or use it on battery when ever possible then charge when flat?

just want to keep the cycle count down and preserve the bat for as long a possible

Why are you letting something as inconsequential as the battery dictate how you use your machine? Batteries can be replaced. Lost time, inconvenience, and annoyance cannot.

That being said, cycling it monthly is fine. Odds are you'll never replace the battery anyways.

i would not call trying to maintain a sealed non user replaceable battery on a £1200 laptop inconsequential, i wanted to know what the best method of maximising the life of the battery was, its likely to be an expensive replacement at the apple store.

im not letting it dictate how u use my machine, most of the time i am sitting with the adapters cable length of a power outlet, the question is am i best using it all the time or fully cycle the battery every day, i does not affect my normal behaviour in any way.

Use it on battery power as much as you can and recharge when they get very low. That's the ideal. You can use it of course while it's charging. You don't need to be OCD about it but if you plan on being away from AC power and the battery is low, just plan for it and charge it up some before heading out.

Continual use on AC power is not recommended.

Just wait till battery life exceeds more than 12hrs on a full charge then we don't need to worry about battery life the entire day and charge at night it when we sleep.

Not too sure if I read it here or somewhere else but a battery replacement for the macbook airs is 129$, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Now a days lithium ion batteries are far more advanced than their counter parts of yesteryear. You don't have to condition them anymore only thing you need to do is calibrate it so your computer is telling the write amount of battery power you got left. Just enjoy the computer and charge it when you need to.
