I am a long time Verizon customer, but like quite a few of us, I am contemplating switching to the iPhone. I use both my corporate e-mail and gmail a lot. Is there a way to get both my contacts from Gmail and my corporate exchange account on the iPhone and have them always syncing?

Yes.

And how would that be done so I can connect to both my work exchange account and my gmail and get contacts from both wirelessly and syncing both??

I didnt know this was possible as you can only have one exchange account at one time and I would guess your work email would sync through that, gmail you would then have to set up through the "other" IMAP settings (not "gmail" icon)

the only way you can sync contacts from google is this which also syncs mail and calendar: http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138740&topic=14252 which as you see is through exchange, anyone correct me if im wrong though

I recently made the switch to iPhone, and also use an Exchange account and Gmail. Despite the comments above saying yes, I couldn't do what you're asking for. Google sync for iPhone uses the Exchange interface, and the iPhone only allows one account to use that.

If anyone who commented yes above feels like elaborating on how, I'd love to learn.

Here's what I have set up -- not perfect, but it works for me, and might for you:
  • iTunes is set to sync my Google Contacts, so they sync every time I connect.
  • Work account is configured via Exchange, but I don't have "contacts sync" turned on.
  • I can access the Exchange server's GAL from within the iPhone Contacts app by clicking Groups and then "[Exchange Account] Global Address List"

Since this doesn't capture anyone in my personal Outlook address book, so I had to export then import into my Google Contacts. I still don't have wireless contact sync, but I connect to iTunes often enough that it's not much of an issue.
