This is a perfect example of why 'hindsight is 20/20". It seemed like a big risk at the time, but such a no brainer when you look at it now...
Wow...it just goes to show how differently people see things given the circumstances. When it was announced, it seems a lot of people were disappointed or thought it was to expensive. Now, seven years later (hell, even five years later) almost everyone who can afford one has one and many see it as the product that saved Apple. I know that's one of the reasons I began to get interested in Apple again (having switched to Windows in 2003 after being with Mac for all 10 1/2 years of my life).
Actually it goes to show that nothing has changed at all.
Heh. Good point. The only reason my family switched to PC was because my brother and I wanted to have greater game compatibility. My Dad actually hates the file structure in Windows and when I brought up the idea to get mine own Mac, he praised it, thinking he may switch when his machine becomes truly aged. However, since the first family computer was a Mac Performa that was ten years old before he replaced it with the current computer of a paltry five years old, it could be awhile.
