Looking for a cutter & software pkg...

I am currently deliberating on the purchase of a 32" Master vinyl cutter XY-380P and FlexiStarter Desay Edition software package to run on my Mac G4 (running OS X 10.4.70) but have run into a problem.
The retailer, DESAY USA, www.desaypc.com email: dave@desaypc.com is saying that they do not recommend running the cutter with a Mac because it will be "unstable". They claim that the 32" cutter will be less "stable" than the 24", and do not recommend either one for a Mac.
Does anyone know of a way to correct this problem of instability, or should I look for another cutter?
Also, if this problem cannot be fixed, do you have any recommendations on cutters and software packages that are compatible with my Mac?

Avoid this brand

Their 32" cutter is less stable due to the fact they have a bad power management, ie very big problems related to electrostatic electricity. This destroy mother boards of many customers of those poor builded cutters.

You should select a known brand, like Summa or Graphtec. Those are delivered with a free basic package for Mac. At this purpose, you have always for your money and I sure recommand to replace by a professional one, like our NCS MagiSign plug-in (http://www.magisign.com)

USB and serial plotter

You know, computer usage is the art to loose time with small things.... -)

If you want to test this one, go and buy this one. But don't complain to me if you loose in one job the equivalent of the price difference with a Keyspan ie in terms of lost media like vinyl !

A cutter driver has to manage huge of datas and most of the other brand of usb-serial adapter are not sources of error in terms of flow control. Flow control error means a cutter crazy attitude (commonly movement in all directions) in the last part of big jobs (it does not appear in small job as cutter have buffer big enough to manage all the small jobs). This always occurs when you have few time for a job, or use expensive material for an added value project and customer. It makes cutter customers crazy... and me too.


I loosed time years ago to test various USB adapters on Mac and cutters. I finally concludes that at least one company has a great knowledge of its business. This is the reason I recommand Keyspan. Their driver are updated on regular basis and they work fine on any version of Mac OS (including on MacIntel). I'm confident that they will quickly update their product for any new version of Mac OS.

Oh no this ioline isn't for business, it's for personal use so time wouldn't be money for me. We have a brand new roland gx-400 for that (badass machine). I just want to get this machine up and running as cost effect as possible since i probably won't be making any money off of it. Also i'd rather go to the local store to buy the usb-serial than order off the internet. I guess i could try the usb serial since i've pretty much tried everything else.
