Why not the aTV you might ask ...

1) we don't have a HD tv
2) i don't feel like paying 100$ or more for a convertor
3) it doesn't support a whole lot of formats

yes, i've tried an aTV and i don't like it. please don't try to convince me otherwise.

but now I'm looking for alternatives ...
the only thing i want to do is stream video from my MBP to my TV.

what about a KiSS 1600?

2) i don't feel like paying 100$ or more for a convertor

I'm not going to answer your question, but this stood out like a sore thumb. VisualHub is a payware converter, and costs $23. HandBrake is a converter and is FREE. MPEGStreamClip is a converter and is FREE.

Don't know where you got your "$100 or more" - unless you aren't using U.S dollars. Unless you meant to put a € sign instead? If so, then it is only €16 for VisualHub, and again all the others are FREE.

Where you got that figure from I have no idea..
