Hi guys I am currently looking for a good PC game to play. I like basically any kind of game, except for strictly shoot'em up games... it needs to have atleast a little strategy or storyline. For example, I thought Deus Ex was amazing.

Here are some games that I have played and enjoyed:

-Deus Ex
-System Shock 2
-Age of Empires II
-Age of Empires
-EverQuest
-Star Wars Pod Racing
-Sonic Adventure

I am asking for the best games of each genre and I will choose which one to play since I can't really put a finger on what kind of game I'm in the mood for. Thanks! :)

Sounds like you might like Oblivion, Fallout 3, Bioshock etc.

My personal faves are L4D, TF2 (anything by Valve really) but they're nothing like the games you mentioned.

Stronghold Crusader. I really liked that game and I find it similar to Age of Empires.

If you have not played the Half Life series, you owe it to yourself to start at the beginning with the original Half Life which is available on Steam. (For those playing on Mac Steam, I know HL2 is available for Mac Steam, but I'm not sure about the original HL.) It's an older game, but you won't regret it. After that move into Half Life 2 and then its chapters.

Diclaimer: These are First Person Shooters but they have outstanding solo stories. In the original, an experiment goes wrong and you a scientist try to escape the Black Mesa Research facility when it is over run with aliens. You'll walk, crawl, run through the bowels of the facility. When help finally arrives, there is a nice twist to the story! See for yourself. :D

I'll check out the original Half-Life. Thanks guys!

ehhhhh I dunno. It's hard to play nowadays I think. I went back to it a while ago when Steam put it on sale for a buck and it was painful. I would say Orange Box would be a better use of gaming time. Now if that half life remake ever comes out.....

Mass Effect is far superior on PC, like is a totally different game than the 360 version. The second one as well though not to the same degree.

Warcraft III is pretty fun, and cheap.

OH! And Torchlight, a lovely Diablo clone made by the creators of Diablo, and it's cheap <3 and if you buy it on Steam, PC & Mac cloud-saving awesome-sauce.

Are you saying painful to look at or poor performance?

I would recommend waiting on HL1 till Black Mesa Source is released. Don't forget Portal, too!

If you are interested in a good storyline, I recommend Riven (and the other Myst games). It's probably my favorite game ever, and it's on sale on Steam for $5 right now. Deus Ex is #2. :)

S.T.A.L.K.E.R is similar in many respects to Deus Ex (FPS with RPG elements, dystopian SF setting) , and it is also on sale this weekend.

I played through HL1 not so long ago, I think it aged well. The atmosphere and controls are bang on still, it's just no so pretty is all.

lol poor to look at and game mechanics that are much more refined in HL2.

I think most PC's can manage the specs:

System:
Pentium-133 or equivalent
RAM:
24 MB
Video Memory:
2 MB
Hard Drive Space:
400 MB
:p;):D

I can't argue that it is not dated graphically, but it's still very playable and enjoyable and worth seeing the first part of the story. :)

Were you a regger, WWIIer, or a GFGGer??? :)

Stair of Grief ftw.
I was a regger, never got into the mods much. Actually I had more fun doing hex-editing of various files to make completely ridiculous things happen.

Wights and satchel dwarves that would blow up the entire map, etc.

I actually don't really mind the older graphics... I actually prefer them since I have an HP DM3z which isn't a gaming portable by any stretch of the imagination. I thought Deus Ex's graphics were still pretty good when I played it a year ago.
