I wanted to purchase Wacom Intuos4 Medium Pen Tablet... however, I keep hearing the tablets pen has some design flaws. Has it been fixed since it debuted? Any other thoughts or suggestions?

No, the design *flaw* is still there. I have owned my Intuos4 Medium for a little over two weeks and have used it very briefly and I already see wear on the nib. I am going to put a smoother piece of plastic over the top of the tablet. This should improve the longevity of my nibs. :p

I would say go for the I4M regardless of this flaw. The touch wheel is really a great feature. I can't imagine owning a Wacom that doesn't have one. Love to use it to change brush size, hardness and opacity on the fly. The OLED displays next to the express keys are nice eyecandy too.

Save yourself 50$ and get the Academic version. It's the same as the retail version... just cheaper (literally my box just had a barcode labeled "academic" stuck over the retail barcode. :p). I got mine from Overstock.com (They don't charge tax... Amazon charges tax in NYS, boooo). Used a 12$ off of 300+$ coupon I got on the internet, total was 301$. Don't know if you are going to get one much cheaper than that; unless you luck out on eBay. :p

If the only issue is heavy wear on the nibs, I wouldn't let that deter you from your purchase. The nibs are replaceable, and every pen comes with several plastic nibs, felt nibs, and a soft "springy" nib.

If cost is a factor, you could always check out monoprice.com. They specialize in A/V cables and accessories, but also sell tablets for a very low price.
