I have a MS Word document for a form which is password protected by the creator so the document cannot be modified in its layout. I want to modify it to be able to use it how I need to use it. I know there are apps (mostly for Windows) which can break the PW protection on an MS Word doc, but I don't know of one which works on a Mac. Anyone have a suggestion? Looking for apps which people have actually used and can recommend as general internet searches usually come back with little. TIA.

Contact the creator? Ask for the password, or for a modification to the form...

Unless it’s an older word doc, it may not be breakable
It's not that I do not believe you, but I see a number of companies claiming to be able to do this with Windows versions of their software. Are they lying/mistaken or is it a Windows only option?

I'm sure there are, I suppose it's a risk you can take. Let us know how it goes.
But I do wonder how you came into this mystery file that you don't know the password for. Is it really worth the trouble?

I don't have Windows, so I cannot test them, hence the post seeking Mac equivalent software. I was just pointing out that it exists.

As for the mystery file, it is not nearly as nefarious as you may be thinking. In my profession, there are often locked word doc forms prepared by Courts or title companies for general use, but those forms and their form fields are often very narrow and don't contemplate situations where there are more parties, the need for second pages or longer description areas, etc. This could all be easily solved with an unlock of the form (which those parties won't do) or else I have to recreate the whole form myself. Trying to avoid that if possible for ease of time, and also because I am not enough of a wiz at Word to create some of those form tables, have similar formatting, etc.
