I am entering the market for a new machine and am thinking of switching to a mac. I am thinking about a Power PC but am holding my breath till August to see if Apple comes out with something with an intel chip, as I am currently a PC user and have a couple of windows apps I can't cut loose. For the last couple of years at work I have been using a 12" G4 powerbook and like what I see but there is always the software issue and of course price. The last Apple I had at home was an Apple III, everyone looks at me like I am crazy when I say that but seriously that was the name I remember it had 128k ram and 2 5.25'' floppy drives. Anyway finally to the point, I am looking for some good reasons to become a "switcher" and by the way I have heard many of the typical PC hater reasons. So what does everyone have to say?

osx works
apple hardware is very well put together
no viruses
no adware
new intel products are really quite nice (even with the few bugs)
can now dual boot or virtualize windows

I hadn't heard that about adware, another point for apple. I have heard many places that OSX is better than Windows. Having used windows for awhile now I ask how/why? I agree OSX looks nicer but other than the virus and security issues I don't notice windows being as unstable as it is cracked up to be. I would also ask is OSX really more resistant to security attacks or is it just that the bad guys just spend more time on the os most people have. By the way I am asking these questions because I really want to learn. I don't want to come off as supporting or trying to defend anything. Thanks

the biggest selling point on every mac that i've owned is that they've all worked! no questions asked, they've been the simplest machines to operate and have given me little/no trouble. not to mention the fact that they're the only computers on the market that you can even THINK about calling sexy...and boy are they beautiful. once you buy one, own one, you'll never accept anything less than perfection that is Macintosh!

I've gotta give Mac props for the community. I've never seen a bunch of folks as riled up for Windows as when Jobs steps out to give a keynote (especially when he dropped the interim). And these forums are by far the most friendly and knowledgeable for anything computer related. People even sell and buy stuff through the forums! I wouldn't have trusted anyone in the PC forums I used to frequent like that!

I have been reading quite a bit around MacRumors and would have to agree the community here is really something to be proud of. Thanks for the input and if I can save enough pennies I hope to have a happy switcher story at the end of the summer or whenever the new intel power pc's (or whatever they will be called) come out.

The intels are already out, the iBook's and the PowerMac's just haven't been transitioned yet...
Don't think twice about this decision, this OS is stable, I can't believe my dad passed up a Mac a few years ago (Went from a Performa 500 to a HP in 2002)...At least I have a Mac, and I've been enjoying it. For windows, it's always about maintenance, admit it pc users, you spend 60-80 percent of the time fixing or maintaining than doing something productive (I've used a pc for about 4-5 years, so don't call me a Mac Freak or anything).
