I am currently using Lightshot but I am looking for something that I can take a quick screen shot or select a portion of the screen and copy and paste it directly in a message or email, and not have to attach a photo or open a photo and crop it.

the only issue I have with Lightshot is it doesn't load automatically when I boot up my MacBook.
I am looking for something that can stay in the menubar and I can click and choose how I want to make a screenshot.

Mac version is paid, but it's great.

Can you confirm that you've reviewed the default mac shortcuts for screenshots and they are not adequate?

From my understanding of your use case, I would use control-shift-command 4, which is the default keyboard assignment for copying a picture of the selected area to the clipboard.

Control Shift 5 gives you pretty granular control over screeenshotting & sharing pictures
