Good morning and Happy Holidays to all of you! I have a brand new iPad Pro 12.9” that I just love. All it needs is a good tracker blocker. I’m talking about most of the trackers that show up in the Website Data in Safari in the Settings like Amazon-adsystem.com and adthrive.com and so many others including the ever intrusive social media trackers.

I‘m not even so concerned about the ads, just the trackers. I installed 1Blocker’s free version to see what it would block and the answer is nothing. Not impressed with that endless list of scripts it claims to block. That doesn’t tell me anything definitive. I don’t want to pay for a premium version of anything and find my website data still full of trackers. Any suggestions?

For Safari: Adblock Pro
For all other apps: Lockdown

I know that Adblock Pro isn’t for free but it works well. Otherwise free tracking blockers would track your visited websites.

I can personally agree with @Blue Hawk here. I have been using adguard pro since iOS 10. It has changed over the years but works pretty well when it comes to blocking ads and trackers across all apps :)

So it’s not a Safari specific extension?
NO, works with any browser. I have a banking app I have to whitelist to work. They use to be able to get closer to the core but Apple no longer allows that. Thought it could be the end of AG but they rebuilt the code to work, thankfully. I have a lifetime license, they just had 40% and been using it... years/forever Android, Windows, iOS, and Mac just got a new update today.

There are specific safari extensions that you can use if you only want it to filter in safari. It also has a "DNS" feature that makes the phone appear to connect to a VPN(It doesn't though) and that will filter every app. At the end of the day, the option is up to the user. I use the DNS option so I have full system filtering. Of course, if something doesn't work, you can either disable the protection, or add a specific domain(s) to the whitelist to allow. Rarely have I had issues outside of the few games that freeze up because they are riddled with ads otherwise.

Adguard or Adblock? He mentioned Adblock.
I am not personally familiar with Adblock but I mentioned since I use Adguard and he mentioned the Pro version even though it is a paid app. I think I paid 1-2 dollars for it one time, not a subscription.

The question was about blocking third party trackers, not ads.
Safari now blocks third party trackers by default

Thank you all so much for your input. I’m sure you saved me from spending money on the wrong app.
