A good friend of mine purchased a iPhone 5 and he sold me his old 4S that is Jailbroke on 5.1.1. I currently have a 4 also JB on 5.1.1. I want to start with a clean slate with his and then JB again. We all know there is no 6.0 JB out yet so I have tried all options with the 4S. The Reset All in Settings just sits there with the little spinning wheel like it's doing something forever. The most I let it try to to reset was 45 minutes.

So we tried another method: he had an old back up in iTunes that we used to restore. It worked. All his media and emails/text were gone. It still was JB and had most if not all of his packages still. So I continued to set it up as my phone now attempting doing a backup with PKGBackup which didn't work so well (which is a whole other issue). I ended up just manually installing all the packages I had on my 4 and reconfiguring it to match the setup I had on that 4. I should also add I am running StraightTalk as my provider so there are settings that I will also need to get my Data/MMS to work on the iPhone. All was well and I went to bed for the evening and when I woke up this morning I received a text (on WiFi) from a friend and it came through on my old 4 (No SIM installed) and I got nothing on my new 4S that was working fine before bed. So I tried a reboot and when it came back all my apps were thrown all over not organized in folders like I had them and Cydia wouldn't open. Also it no longer had any of the packages I installed that he didn't have on the phone originally. So I resprung the Springboard and now Cydia works but everything is still out of order.

I should also add I have tried restoring using the Shift+Restore (Windows) method in iTunes with a factory 5.1.1 ISPW but I am met with the usual error (sorry, can't remember what it was). I have NEVER in my 4 years of iPhones been able to restore to a old ISPW with a previously JB iPhone so I only tried a few times and gave up.

Advice please. Anyone here of iSO6 Jailbreak Untethered coming soon?

From what i have read, one should never do the reset all settings or the erase content and settings on a jailbroken iPhone. Best way is to restore using iTunes.
I had also got the spinning circle for an hour on my jailbroken iPod touch before and i had to do a restore to straighten things out.

So were you able to restore to a older ISPW? If Apple has iSO6 out now and I want to restore to 5.1.1 using a stock ISPW I downloaded then select that it never seems to work...EVER!

You most likely corrupted your file system by pressing erase all content and settings. Use tiny umbrella and get the blobs for 5.1.1 ( assuming they exist) and just sit tightly until the new redsnow comes out. It will allow you to re-restore to 5.1.1 if you have your blobs (shsh hash and apticket). But once you go to 6.0 you can never go back to 5.1.1. So if I were you, I'd put the 4S down, use the 4 until redsnow comes out then reinstall 5.1.1 on the 4S. I wouldn't do anything else.

Edit: Dude you really should have scanned through any of the top 15-20 threads. I've never seen so many threads at once talking about the same thing...this! Erase all content and setting button re-restore to 5.1.1. etc

This happened to me before iOS 6 public version was released so i was able to download 5.1.1 from Apple and restore the phone.

So basically you don't have a clue what jailbreaking means or how it works.

No you can't use reset all settings when jb-en, it's a wel documented issue and indeed has about 6 threads on the first page.

Restoring a firmware when jb-en or downgrading has a special procedure, you need to have your SHSH/APticket saved and you need to be in DFU-mode on the phone to restore.

The most current iOS firmware is signed by Apple, when an new version comes out the older iOS is no longer signed.

You can restore 5.1.1 on the 4S to 5.1.1 when the new redsn0w version comes out, you will need to stitch your SHSH/APticket to the 5.1.1 IPSW.

Tutorials are on iClarified.com, when the new redsn0w comes out it will work fine, it always worked fine in the past, just need to follow the correct procedure, with the release of iOS 6.0 Apple changed the procedure a bit.

The reason you got an txt on your IP4 is because of imessage.

Your IP4 can be downgraded or restored to 5.1.1 now if you have the SHSH/Apticket for those firmwares, Cydia will show on the main page what SHSH's or blobs you have.

Stop ranting and start reading...

At least you were nice about

I didn't know this, but I do now thanks to the power of the internet...i mean YOU!

I am in DFU mode and have unfortunately had little luck with backing up SHS/APticket but this is mostly in the past when I went up a level by accident [aka, 4.* to 5.*] and was trying to roll back. SO this may not be the case now.

Okay, so is this the simple answer I am looking for, I basically am screwed until a iSO6 JB comes out if I wish to JB?

Thanks, I think this is the nicest thing you said.

This I already knew. The point of saying I got a text on my old phone and not new was to point out my new (4S) wasn't working for some reason unknown.

RANT? I am so sorry, maybe I will find another place other than a FORUM to ask a QUESTION. Not everyone came out of their mothers womb knowing all the answers - some (like me) have to ask a question first, like I am here.

Get laid much?!!!! ;)

Plenty! But that doesn't help you getting out of your iOS6….

for the rest, i (we) am (are) always willing to help, but you can help yourself best and it usually is the easiest way and you learn during the process.

Start with google and reading through the first page on this forum, it has numorous threads on your problem and on the reset all settings.

The accident from 4-5 might have prevented the situation now. Most people rush head first in to jailbreaking and than run in to problem, no exeption here.

You can't downgrade if you haven't got the blobs.
So what blobs do you have?

What i read from your first post is that at the very least you have 5.1.1 blobs for the 4S, wait for the new redsn0w and you can downgrade.

patience is a virtue

Or wait for the iOS6 JB and upgrade ;)

Thanks, when I get home from work I will tackle this all again.
