iPhone Looking for advice

Hi, I'm new to the iDevice world, as I've been an android user. But my wife was recently given an iPhone 4 and after resetting and upgrading everything there was to upgrade, I learned that I'm stick on IOS 7.1.2 and virtually every app out there requires IOS 8 at least.

I've done several searches, but every article is just full of click bait and meta key words, but don't actually give any real information. So do I have any options to work with? I'm more than willing to jailbreak and try anything, I just don't want to waste a lot of time into this if it's not possible from the beginning. So, is there anything I can do to be able to install newer apps, she doesn't really need anything else, just to be able to install the apps that she wants (like Pandora for example).

No, I'm sorry. The iPhone 4 maxes out at iOS 7.1.2. Jailbreaking won't change that.

The App store should however have been offering you the opportunity to install an older version however. If it hasn't then the app dev has removed support entirely.
 
I was afraid of that. Pandora is pretty much the only app she wanted, and they apparently have removed support for earlier versions. I found some guides online about using some apps within iTunes (Fiddler for example) but after around step 13 I got completely lost. Are there places out there that store older versions of the apps like they do for Android apps?

There might be, but I don't know of any. I looked through my old backups for a .ipa file for you, but I didn't have one.

Have you tried using Safari to go to their mobile website (I assume they have one)?
 
If you're jailbroken, download a tweak called App Admin from cydia. It'll allow you to download/downgrade apps to older versions directly from the appstore. Very, very useful.
 
I have a 4s run iOS7.1.2. As you said, many new apps requires at least iOS 8. I have no choice but to buy a new iPhone. Fortunately, SE released, more powerful performance with iOS9.0.3 installed. If you want to use Pandora, try to find if there are any third party apps which can stream contents from Pandora and not require a higher OS than iOS7. Good luck.
 
After spending all night researching, I discovered I can install apps that I download, and if I could find a previous version of Pandora that was compatible with ios 7.1.2 then I could install it, I just can't find anything anywhere. In about a month or so I'm going to be switching providers and getting new phones for everyone, and I was hoping I could use this iphone 4 to get a rough idea of what I could expect with an iphone in general, but it's really hard when only a few apps will install. In the meantime, I did install Spotify that would install and works great. But hopefully with enough digging, I'll be able to find an older version of Pandora.

An iPhone 4 running 7.1.2 won't give you a very good idea of what to expect with an iPhone. So much has changed (for the better) and an iPhone 4 running 7.1.2 is slow and cumbersome (I know because I have one). When the iPhone 4 was released, it was fairly quick and usable. It became a slow mess and is barely able to open 2016 mobile websites. Try going to ESPN.com and you'll see what I mean. When the phone was released, it could handle the old version of ESPN.com with ease. The iPhone 4 running 7.1.2 is truly obsolete.

As for your App problems, I can't seem to find anything either. Hopefully you're able to get the device to work with specific apps so the phone can be usable in some way.

This is something I would have originally suggested to the OP if I was sure that App Admin works on iOS 7.1.2. Does it?
 
I've looked into jailbreaking the phone, but every person I've spoken to says if my only objective is to install Pandora, it's not worth the strain. However, if jailbreaking and running App Admin will allow me to install other apps as well, I would take a much more serious look into doing it, but the internet is so flooded with websites that doesn't really help.

The phone is honestly just something my wife was given that she's playing with. And Spotify does seem to be a pretty decent streaming music option. The battery life holds up very well, but that might be because the previous owner literally used it maybe 5 times since he bought it brand new. I think I'm more of an android user myself, but the iPhone might be something my wife likes better, and I do have to admit having iTunes manage everything within the phone is awfully convenient!
 
Hi OP, I think you should jailbreak and try to find a previous version of pandora on appcake. Appcake can be downloaded from cydia and has IPA downloads and installs of pretty much every version of every app. I am using 7.1.2 on a 5s and really have no issue regarding apps. If it's the pandora music app appcake has the previous versions 6.6 and 6.7 listed. Going to look into app admin too. App admin isn't compatible with 7.1.2.
