Looking for an internship...

So I mentioned this breifly in the other thread about summer plans..
but I'm asking around for advice on how to find one and make summer (at least part of it) worthwile. I wrote a resume (needs critique), sent it to a company, posted on craigslist but I don't really know what to do next.

Suggestions from the (old and) wise?

Go knock on doors. Be assertive. It's all about who you know, or who you meet face to face. Employers love that. Make a list of places you would like to work and go visit them.
