i hate using my phone to play my music through my Bluetooth speaker while working since it kills the battery very quickly. So looking to pick up something on the cheaper side that still runs good which I can connect to my speakers via Bluetooth.

Was looking into iPod nano 7th gen but the reviews everyone is posting says it sucks, so trying to find something else.

I don't have a better suggestion than mclld for a cheap player.

But if your music is stored in the cloud or on a computer or NAS, you could also consider chromecast audio and plug this into your speakers. Because the chromecast would connect directly to the source you wouldn't drain the battery on your phone. The phone would just be a controller.

I have a nano 7 and it works great with Bluetooth headphones. I don't need tons of functionality just music in the gym and it's somewhere i doing like the idea of taking my phone(S).

Audio quality has between grand for me, but in a gym whilst working out im not too bothered about highest quality DAC etc ..

Now will this device last me 8-10 hours on a charge of non stop music?

In that case an iPod Nano. There might be bad reviews for it, but if you want one just for music, you really can't go wrong.
Same question as above
The nano 7 has been all bad about battery life..

The longest session That I've used mine on a 185km cycle and was on about 7.5 hours all day ... It had plenty of battery left (around 65%) when I finished. This was with wired headphones.

I've never monitored battery life for gym sessions as they tend to be a maximum of 2 hours for me so I tend to always know it will be grand and even if I go 4 or 5 times in a week, I only have to charge roughly once a week.

Do you know anyone with one that you could perhaps borrow and see how you get on before you commit and purchase ?

A quick Google search managed to find me some iPod rentals. You could try googling for your area, ones I found were around $12 per week. Might be worth investigating. But yeah I notice at the gym too that dedicated MP3 players are very much a minority as most seem to be using their phones.
