We just ordered a new iMac for use running presentation software. Our configuration currently is an old iMac that feeds FOUR external projectors in our auditorium. Of the 4 projectors, there are TWO separate outputs - three of the projectors gets a split feed so that the same output is displayed on those screens.

Because our current iMac is so old, we have had to cobble together a solution, and actually are running one of the video feeds off of some off-the-wall USB 2.0 adapter, that is extremely temperamental... so we will be glad to replace the iMac and be rid of that nightmare. The other feed uses a DisplayPort (mini) adapter to feed VGA.

With the new iMac, the DisplayPort ports are gone, and we will get two TB3 ports... but we are also wanting to separate one of the three splits to a new/unique feed... the projectors are currently VGA, so we need adapters and/or dock that will give us multiple discreet video out to drive THREE feeds... and at least for the foreseeable future, a VGA out will suffice.

I've started looking around for some adapters, but can't seem to find what I need.

Has anyone been down this road before us? I'd welcome any suggestions to get us what we need... and beyond the basics, since we're dreaming, future proofing (HD or 4K video out) would be a really nice to have.

I have been using the Elgato TB3 Dock to run two external monitors, 1 4K@30 and 1 3440x1440 , and it has been flawless with the 15” 2016 MBP, and pretty good with my Thinkpad X1Carbon except it won’t charge the PC. Of course there’s no VGA but I guess there are always adapters.

I think you might also be able to use a couple Displaylink USB3 adapters. They are all pretty similar.
