Hello,
I have a Mid 2015 rMBP on which I will run bunch of VM's but I have not much space to hold the VM's. I am looking for a 256GB external disk which should be somewhat portable. I checked Sandisk extreme pro 256GB USB 3.0, did anyone had such an experience? Is sandisk extreme pro capable of running 2-3 vm's at the same time with good enough speed? Of course I am open for suggestions about other devices.
Regards.

Have you thought about using thunderbolt? I used a seagate portable thunderbolt adapter as a boot drive. Put a ssd in, speeds easily over 300mb closer to 400. I've since switched to a dual drive config, but the adapter is portable. Basically a hard drive.

Thank you for your reply.
I just checked local stores and it seems thunderbolt drives are generally at TB level in size and price range is much more than usb flash sticks. Sure they are portable but not as much as flash sticks.

I put a 512 gb ssd in my seagate adapter. Ran great and it's bus-powered. And imo it's definitely more stable than a flash drive. I understand it's more but tb is overall a lot faster than a flash drive and less likely to crash.

I just looked up my adapter. Whoa it jumped in price. I'm glad I still have mine it's worth more now than when u bought it. And I still have a st warranty on it.

You're worried about running multiple vm, you won't with a ssd. 350+mb speeds.

I actually have a 2013 (I think) 21.5 iMac that I really didn't want to take apart to put in an SSD. I did some research and most people recommended this USB 3 enclosure:

It's bus-powered too, which is nice. I ended up putting in a Samsung EVO 500gb SSD and actually use that as my boot drive. It's been working perfectly for months now, no issues with boot or anything else. I'm sure this would work great for your VMs and costs a fraction of thunderbolt!

The SanDisk Extreme Pro is their top of the line SSD, and will perform very nicely.
