Looking for input on a good mouse for design

I did a search on this site, but the thread that came up was dated back in 2007 and a lot of the recommends are no longer available or discontinued.

I am retiring my old skool, original, optical apple mouse that came with the
G4. It lasted me 8 years, was basic, but did the job well and I have no complaints.

I would really like to hear if any users are using wireless for design and if they have had any issues with lag. From what I have read, it seems this was an issue when they first introduced the wireless mouse, but has recently been corrected, although there are still some negative reviews regarding delay and lag with the new Apple Magic Mouse.

The other mouse I have read some decent reviews on for designers is the Logitech MX Revolution.

Personally, if I could have a basic, one button, wired mouse that is as smooth and reliable as the originals that Apple used to make, I would likely opt for it (I am comfortable with keyboard short cuts). Nonetheless, I may be missing out on the newer generation of mice and their technological advances, since it has been 8 years since I purchased a mouse and I really don't know what I could be missing.

If anyone could recommend a wired and/or a wireless model, it would be greatly appreciated. I am not particularly interested in graphic tablets, as I do not do much free hand illustration and am more comfortable with a mouse and keyboard at the present time for my design needs.

Personally I like the MX better. I was never a fan of apple mouses to begin with. Then again, even a regular ol' dell mouse is great too. I'd buy the MX somewhere you can return it that way if you dont like it you can give it back. Just remember, MX = dongle, magic mouse = bluetooth (no dongle) if that matters.

I have the MX (bestbuy has them on sale for $40 time to time) and I can't be happier. I LOVE the mechanical wheel. One deal breaker for me was that it molds into my hand. It just fits right instead of the magic mouse where it feels like I'm moving around a slim polished rock.

I am using a Logitech Pilot Mouse and it is perfectly good.

No matter that you aren't into illustration, the perfect mouse for design isn't a mouse. It's a Wacom tablet.

That being said... stay away from the newer performance MX mouse from Logitech. I bought one and it's always losing it's click and you have to hit the escape key to get it to start functioning again.

Thanks for the info. I have read that the Wacom Tablets are a good product, I have no doubt that they are optimal for some designers. However, at the present time, I am more comfortable with a mouse and keyboard. I will likely look into Tablets later this coming year as they do offer several unique benefits for design that I would be interested in exploring.

Thanks for the info. This looks like a nice basic, yet practical wired mouse. Are the buttons programmable or is there a single click option?

This may sound stupid, but if there are two buttons on a mouse, how do you work the single, double click function on a mac? Do you just double click the one button same as you would the single button on an apple mouse? Or do you use it like you would on a pc, right click for menu, left click for highlighting etc.

I take it this is the one you are using?
