Hi - I have an older Mac mini - either first or second generation, I can't remember - it doesn't have digital audio out or an intel processor....

Anywho a year or so ago it stopped booting and I bought a laptop so the mini has been sitting around collecting dust - I also sold the monitor I used with it - a few days ago, I brought it to the ipod store on a whim and they were able to fix it! so I bought a dvi-hdmi cable thinking I could connect it to my tv since I don't have that monitor anymore

Anywho I get it home, hook it up but the tv (toshiba regza) doesn't show anything other than "unsupported video signal" I'm assuming that I need to adjust the resolution but I can't because I can't see anything and I have no other monitor to use to test it out

Any suggestions on what I can do to get this working? Is there a way to boot into some safe lo-resolution mode?

Thanks

You might be able to boot into Safe Mode and choose a resolution your TV supports

Bearing in mind that the video that comes from DVI port on the Mac mini isn't digital from what I can remember.

I'm probably wrong (usually am according to my partner...)

I'd recommend the same thing. It would be logical to assume, though, that DVI is a digital output because of its full name--digital video interface? :D

is your tv powered on and connected before you power up the mini? otherwise the mini may not detect the display.

you may need a third-party resolution setter to make os x compatible with your tv, such as displayconfigx or switchresx. the newer intel macs usually work fine with the latest 720p/1080p displayes, but video drivers in older macs may need a little help.
