Universal Looking for news app that does not curate

The one thing I can’t stand about most news apps today is that they all “customize” the news feed to my liking. I want to hear news from all viewpoints and I just want stories that matter, not like the thing on Apple News front page tonight “passenger who was not allowed to use the restroom dies in Thailand”. I guess Apple News thinks they are Buzzfeed now. About the closest thing I’ve found that delivers all viewpoints without too much “personalization” is Microsoft News. But their ads are obnoxious “5 things residents of Sebring (my town) need to know”. I never granted location access so I guess they are using my IP address to do that.

Any good recommendations that the good readers of Mac Rumors can offer would be appreciated.

Any RSS feed reader app will do. I use Feedly.

I find Inoreader and Newsblur to be great RSS feed readers.

Yeah you might be better off going the RSS route and picking your publications. I use Feedly, but I also like to use a curated news aggregator from time to time. What I like about them is that I sometimes discover new publications to follow, and they are good for wasting time. I use SmartNews. Like most of the curated news apps it asks you to choose topics and then it populates the topics with content from various resources... most familiar and some less so.

SmartNews does a good job of presenting multiple points of view on a topic. In my Politics feeds I see articles sourced from across the political spectrum. They include extremely biased sources as well as more balanced ones. What I like most about Smartnews is that it has both a Web reader view and a "Smart" reader view that presents the text without the ads (some of the photos and videos still make it through). Only thing is you will still see plenty of clickbait headlines from the usual sources... at least in the more general topics.

My favorite News app used to be Zite, but it was acquired by Flipboard and I have never been a fan of Flipboard.
