Hey everyone, I just got a 2g iPhone, I'm using it jailbroken/unlocked on GoPhone with unlimited messaging right now. I don't really use calls and have access to Wifi most places I need it so no data either.

The app selection is a little crazy for a new user so I had two questions for those with alot of app knowledge.

1. What are some of the "must have" apps for the iphone, obviously this can vary by taste, but so far I have stuff like aim/facebook/moviefone/yelp, stuff like that, not really interested in games, more like things to make my life easier!

2. One app I know I would like is some sort of offline map program, something I can use while I don't have wifi to check directions. I don't mind if I can't locate my current position (I usually know generally where I am and can find cross streets), just something where if I punch in an address I can see it offline and map to my next location. Does anything like this exist, cheaper the better as well!

Thanks in advance for any help provided, look forward to being a part of the iphone community.

Nice apps to have:

Free Memory (information about your phone)
Things/ToDo/OmniFocus (ToDo apps) it all depends on your taste of the UI, they all sync but the prices differ.
Weather Bug Elite (Weather)

Now for offline Maps

Sygic is okay, I like the look but sometimes it's slow following you, but I guess if you just want a map it works well.
Navigon is the only free solution, so I think in your situation it's the best
G-Map IMO is the best GP{S software, but once again I see how you dont need that.

Pocket Informant - best PIM
Readdledocs - easily download docs from email and the net.
Groups - group contacts (organizing is a pain though with headers getting in the way)
SplashMoney (desktop sync sometimes inaccurate though) or TapExpense (doesn't support multiple accounts).
Listomni - Great list and checklist app.
