OK! I'm on a 3GS, 5.1 firmware, 5.16.05 baseband, NEW bootrom

I want to jailbreak/unlock...

*Will downgrade firmware, or whatever it takes to make it work

Any options?

also, is the baseband downgradeable?
If i flash to 6.15 is the only problem GPS?

There is currently only a tethered jailbreak for your device
Basebands on 3GS can never be downgraded
There are other consequences for installing the iPad baseband besides GPS loss, and if this is a newer phone, doing so can kill the cellular radio.

Post the 1st five characters of your serial number.

it is newer, I got it replaced from apple...

It's a refurb replacement (k in serial #)
You can use the iPad baseband but read the warnings

You should never post full serial #
that's why I asked for first 5 characters

Thanks for the replies,

So my only option has a chance at frying my antennas?

also what could anyone do with the serial number?

*** just found out cydia had my 4.1, 4.3.5, 5.0.1, 5.1 SHSH blobs saved. Am I to late to downgrade? ***

I replied you can use the iPad baseband, if you provided the correct serial #, it will not kill your cellular radio

Downgrading the firmware will not downgrade the baseband
But, if you have the APTicket along with the 5.0.1 hash, you can go back to 5.0.1 for an untethered jailbreak

You can use Redsn0w to verify your 5.01 hashes to see if they are complete or partial

I have the same issue. The first five numbers of my iPhone 3gs are 88205, can I install the iPad baseband?

I am prob the least qualified person to answer... but

88205 means the 5th week of 2012 i think. So no, not compatible with 6.15

6.15.05 help

im hoping someone could tell me if this is unlockable

3GS 5.1 Options

Any takers on this dilemma?

- iPhone 3GS
- New Bootrom
- iOS 5.1
- Week 28 (32gb - I read this is safe for iPad BB)
- Already has iPad Baseband
- Previous owner said it had been unlocked

I picked up this phone fairly inexpensively, and want to see what option(s) may exist for unlocking/jailbreaking. (if any)

When I received this phone, it is at the setup menu, wanting to activate. It searches for cell service, then finally displays no service - there is no way to activate it. I have tried a working ATT SIM, a deactivated ATT SIM and a T-Mobile SIM. Same response with each sim. I wondered if there was a hardware issue as the Iphone doesnt warn me when I remove the sim cards from the phone. The phone does have WIFI working.

TinyUmbrella reports that blobs are available for 5.0.1, which would indicate that a downgrade is possible, from what I understand. However, I am stuck with making CFW that both has the 5.0.1 downgrade and a re-load of iPad BB.

In summary - I would like to possibly downgrade and reload the iPad BB to see if that brings back cellular service. Or, maybe I could try to reload 5.1 with the iPad BB. The constant is that I believe the iPad BB needs to be reloaded. But if a downgrade is possible, i'd have more flexibility with jailbreaking/unlocking/troubleshooting.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

DOWNLOAD REDSN0W -
http://www.mediafire.com/?s5cv03f9qfckh82
CLICK THE "EXTRAS" BUTTON AND THEN CLICK THE "JUST BOOT" BUTTON
YOU WILL NEED TO PUT THE PHONE INTO DFU MODE

(OR IF THAT DOESN'T WORK)

TRY RESTORING IT WITH A CUSTOM FIRMWARE
USE SN0WBREEZE TO CREATE YOUR FIRMWARE AND PROPERLY PLACE THE iPhone INTO (PWNED DFU MODE) -
http://www.mediafire.com/?zczi4lzadvedmai - sn0wbreeze 2.9.3

don't install iPad baseband again just cydia and hacktivate

Hey there I got a used 3GS for my girlfriend and I need to unlock it for her to use it with her carrier. So here's the model:

iOS 5.1/ BB 05.16.05 / 85928***

Following this thread it should be alright using the iPad BB, right?

For some reason though I can't get Redsn0w to boot the 06.15.00 BB.

I jailbreaked it once (but without iPad BB).. and now if I try to do it again (WITH iPad BB) it says "This device is already pwned with a bootrom exploit".

What do I need to do?

Thank you so much for any help.

You definitely should re-install ipad baseband using the latest redsnow. You can then do a tethered 5.1 jailbreak, install ultrasn0w and confirm that cellular works again.
Then you can consider downgrading to 5.0.1 or 4.1.

I have a iPhone 3GS with iOS 5.0.1 Firmware a 16gb model with bootrom says : new model where the S/N first 5 digits are : 32044, which I assume means 44th week of 2010, starting from 29th October 2010 and on I believe. I forgot to mention that the baseband of my 3GS is 5.16.05 which it requires an upgrade to iPad 6.15.00 baseband but it's too risky since I'm not well aware and assure whether I should upgrade to that BB and then jailbreak and do the unlocking stuff etc. Any advice?

Go ahead and update your baseband (that is the only way to unlock it for you)
Its not too risky if you read up on it and follow all the instructions. you have an old bootrom so thats good too.
