Looking for performance tweak thread

I am looking for a specific forum on here (I believe it was on here) where someone had posted a bunch of settings to turn off on the iPhone to get the best performance out of iOS 9. I currently have a iPhone 6s Plus. I have done the usual and turned off Background app refresh and turned off some location settings and also have turned off spotlight search. I have been looking for a couple of days now with this specific post but was unable to find it. I forgot to save it when I had originally saw it the first time.

Best performance in what sense? Simply battery life?

BTW I strongly advice you NOT to follow all the guidelines given in that thread: it will crippled down your iPhone ....

Why buying an 900€ device if you use it like a 100€ dumbphone ?

It doesn't cripple anything. My phone works the same way it was intended to.

To be fair, it certainly works the way you would want it to with the settings you want, but as far as "intended" goes, from Apple's side of things, it's likely intended to work with all the features they provide enabled to get the most out of the device (again, in their view of it, as far as "intended" part goes).

I've never seen a difference in battery life when turning off background app refresh. I've actually heard arguments that leaving it on saves battery life.

Lol after reading that list again, my suggestion to anyone that turns everything off like that gets rid of their phone and just use a dumb phone instead.

If you turned off everything that you listed in that thread, it's pretty obvious what your device does or does not do. I just don't understand why someone would pay so much for a device with so many features, and then disable them just to save a few minutes of run time.

Just a bunch of those:

2. Settings > Cellular > Enable LTE > OFF

you can't use LTE speeds ...

4. Settings > General > Spotlight Search > Turn OFF everything there

you can't take advantage of search indexing ...

7. Settings > General > Background App Refresh > switch it OFF

you are not allowing some apps to work as designed ...

8. Settings > General > Date & Time > Turn OFF Set Automatically

you have to set manually the time when you change time zone (every week in my case)

.... and I could go on (not to speak about ALL the system based location services you disabled).

Lately, people on this forum can't tolerate people using their phones in totally different ways than Apple "suggests". I, for example, am always using WiFi so no much need for LTE, I only use spotlight for currency conversions, Background App Refresh is completely unnecessary for the few apps I have installed... And I can go on and on. To each his own, man.

Nobody debated about that.
But crippling down a smartphone to spare battery life is not a good advice in my opinion....

If you are under WiFi coverage, LTE isn't harming your battery life.
If you don't have apps using BAR, the option enabled doesn't impact your battery life.
And I can go on and on in the same way ....

I have no LTE in my area and I'm on wifi 99% of the day.

I don't search since I have about 12 apps on my phone that all fit in one home screen page.

Background app refresh has proven to be completely useless on almost every app.

I don't travel out of my time-zone.

What else you got? Again, I don't see how this stops my phone from working as intended. Oh boy, my time is off!

You specifically asked what his phone can do that yours can't. He listed a few things. It's irrelevant wether you use them or not because your question was what his phone can do vs yours, not what he uses vs what you use.

Location services would be a big thing that adds a ton of features turned on vs turned off. Thus the phone with it on can in fact do more.

the most idiotic suggestion is to turn off LTE. Carriers are claiming their LTE networks are the fastest in order to try and make customers switch and this suggestion is exactly the opposite.

"Hi, is your smartphone data connection too fast for your taste? Do you like to stare at a pinwheel spin for minutes while you wait for data to load? Do we have a solution for you! Disable LTE and enjoy those wonderful slow speeds. Now you have an excuse for not liking your friends Facebook post.

Act now and we'll show you how to disable location services! Who needs a Navigation app? I got my trusty Compass and Thomas guide right here!. Near by restaurants? Pffft. I'll just keep driving until I see something"

I don't know why you need it, but Apple uses it to show more-relevant ads. People might prefer that, but if you want to conceal your location, you can do this. Regardless, this does not mean that your iPhone uses less energy as a result, because it is a privacy feature first and foremost. Your iPhone is also smart enough to locate itself without wasting energy.
