And no, I don't mean phones, those probably won't happen.

Anyone else here excited by the idea of an ARM chip that is designed around the idea of being in a Windows 10 machine? Because I'm already crying at the extra debt I'm going to pack on from buying one when it comes out.

The Snapdragon 850, which Qualcomm says will only be used in PCs and will not make its way to phones, is essentially a customized version of the Snapdragon 845 that debuted in phones earlier this year. The improvements that it brings to the Always Connected PC platform are in line with that: it has a claimed 30 percent performance improvement, 20 percent better battery life, and 20 percent faster peak gigabit data speeds over the Snapdragon 835. The Snapdragon 850 is built on the same second-generation 10nm process as the 845, and it’s paired with the same X20 modem for cellular connectivity. Qualcomm says the 850 includes both hardware and software tuning to make it better at performing PC activities compared to the Snapdragon 845.

If I were Apple, should I be worried? I wonder what the price will be? Could be a factor in stealing sales from not only the ipad, but also the Surface Line, that is audaciously expensive. I'm guessing the casual browser, email, netflix consumer, etc, will find this computer quite okay for their usage...if it lives up to the hype.

I don't think Apple is worried, but that doesn't change whether or not it's going to be good. I, however, believe this could make a great Windows competitor to the iPad.

I am very much looking forward to Snapdragon 850 devices. I also don’t think Apple has to worry about these devices but impacting iPad sales.

I see these as supplementing full blown Windows 10 PC’s, not replacing them. The hey give you the convenience to use a Windows 10 machine on the go. But won’t do all the tasks a full blown PC can do.

Microsoft will never catch up to iOS and Android in the Smartphone market. But they can offer an alternative by continuing to shrink down Windows 10 device size.

My $0.02, Microsoft could pry its way back into the smartphone market by offering a device that receives constant software updates like the iPhone, but is customizable like Android.

And no, these devices would never have as many apps as Apple or Android. But users of these devices wouldn’t care about having a million apps available on an App Store. They would only care about the six or seven apps that would help them use their PC’s better.
