Hello, I am currently in the middle of searching for a new tech job (Currently the head tech at Staples) and was looking to apply for a job at my apple retail store at the local mall.

I went to a tech school and have some networking certifications. The only questions that I have are, what is the average pay of an Apple Genius? Would they appreciate my skills and experience in computers an customer service/retail experience + selling and shape them toward Apple and Mac or will they just tell me that I know nothing?

Also what are the employee benefits?

I'm just looking for a part time job about 4 times a week so that I can work through college but it seems that most of the genius information I find on the net pertains to a full time position. Are there any part time jobs at the genius bar?

Wow, I was kind of interested in seeing answers to your questions. I thought people would be all over this post. Don't tell me there are no Genius' on here. Maybe that's telling us something. ;)

My advice is that, unless you really enjoy the retail setting, you won't get to the really cool stuff (and earn a lot more money) until you leave retail in the dust.

In the same fashion, the Apple Genius is never going to work on enterprise level equipment and do anything really cool. It's just another break-fix job on consumer equipment.

If that's your cup of tea, go for it.

Well, I'm not looking to make it a full time job. Just something to help me get through college.

Can anyone answer my questions?

Apple is notoriously tight lipped, I'm guessing most geniuses wouldn't feel comfortable talking about anything work related on here. Most of your questions are fairly simple, I imagine Apple themselves would answer it if you spoke to a store manager (or just applied for the job - why not right?

A friend of mine's brother is a genius in NYC, and from what I've heard, all genius positions are all full-time. Working the floor at Apple Retail, however, isn't all that bad. I was offered a position but declined due to a promotion at my other job. Starting pay was a good 25% above the other retail jobs here, and the hours were very flexible. Of course, your mileage may vary depending on your location and the manager.

I also thought there would be a much larger response to this thread. It's something i'm interested to hear as well.
